I don't want to argue, we're both Habs fans. The fact is that Gorges was missing practices with an undisclosed injury long before December 26. If you are close to the team or Gorges and know for certain that the earlier problem was totally unrelated to the knee, well, that's that.

But playing Gorges with a nagging injury while scratching a healthy Subban because Martin wanted to send a message to PK, well, I can't agree with that strategy.

Go Habs Go!

Are you of Japanese decent or what are you writing over there?

How are booze prices there compared to Canada?

Montrealer, in Japan a long time. No Asian ethnicity, have a Japanese wife. Have done an awful lot of sports writing, among other things. Booze cheap at the shops, bars can be very pricey.

(Sorry about the off-topicness...)

I'd give him a 1 year one way $3m contract for the rest of this year to let him try it out in the NHL. After losing Gorges and Markov, this year is pretty much a let it be season, I'd hate us to waste assets on bandaids.

I'd rather give him a real shot to know if he can be in the bigs next year or not. If he doesn't work out, he can go back to the motherland next year.

On Twitter, Renaud Lavoie just mentioned that Gorges played without his ACL for a few seasons now....

That sucks! Our team just got a lot easier to play against. Josh is such a fierce competitor. And a K-Town boy to boot!

The issue isn't so much making the playoffs -- the way the Habs have played this year, even without Gorges, this should be pretty much a given assuming decent luck, they're probably better than Boston too so they might very well end up in 3rd -- but what you do once you get there.

Although one more major injury on defense would really hurt. Gauthier is going to put a brave face and talk about the Habs' depth but, um, they're using 4 third-pairing D-men. Hammer should be back so they can partner him with Subban or somesuch, but that's still a little thin.

Yeah but it's not like he was ever a captain.

Yeah it would have been a much more bigger blow to our team if that would have been the case.

Anyone think Montreal may make a strong push for Regehr in Calgary now?

They said out of the big contracts and NTC he would be one they may approach (Feaster) and maybe willing to move.

He would be a nice addition with our young D and offensive minded Dmen in Weber, Wiz and Subban.

He seems like a logical fit in my opinion?

I think Weber would probably be involved in the package, if not another young prospect. We're going to end up with a bit of a log jam at D depending who we keep and which route we go down.

If we can re-sign Wiz then I think Weber is expedable, AK would probably heading that way too.

Spending an arm and a leg to get Regehr which basically makes us a worse team than when we started the season, doesn't make sense.

Our D at the start of the year

Markov, Gorges

Spending an arm and a leg to get Regehr nets us

Regehr minus Markov & Gorges

Not good asset management imo.

When you can sit back, don't waste your assets, spend them in the off season to get Regehr and next season have

Markov, Gorges and Regehr.

That sounds alot more succesful to me.

Same thing is true of Kaberle.

spending now is the worst thing this team could do.

I don't see who we could give up for Regehr to be honest.

We love Gorges but he is a (very solid & reliable) stay at home D man. He is a fairly common commodity and the Habs dont need to give up bigtime assets to land an overhyped guy like Regehr... Guys like him go for low rank draft picks and/or minor prospects

I think the definition of overhyped means that you will have to give up bigtime assets.

Blaming the coach is pathetic... sorry

Imo, I never liked the idea of O'Byrne being traded... because in the modern NHL you need at least 8 D due the injuries.

Also, there is no use trading assets... Habs are not contenders.

Festerling?

Ugh just heard this horrible news. I loved Gorges.

Considering Hamrlik missed tonight's game and Spacek left the game early this could turn into a nightmare pretty quickly.

I definitely support a wait-and-see attitude. No time to panic. Let the kids plays. I'd love to see Nash and Carle get some minutes over Festerling.

Losing Markov was of no surprise at all. I figured we couldn't count on him for much this year.

Gorges though is a devastating loss for this team. He plays with his heart on his sleeve and if he's been hurt for the past few weeks it would go a long way to explaining our sudden slump. He's more valuable to us than most folks realize.

O'Byrne would be nice to have right about now...
