NJ trades Langenbrunner to DAL

http://stars.nhl.com/club/news.htm?i...id=DL|DAL|home

Quote:
Dallas Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk announced today that the NHL club has acquired right wing Jamie Langenbrunner from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a conditional third round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Langenbrunner, 35, is returning to the Stars – the team that he was drafted by (1993 second round, 35th overall) and played the first six and a half NHL seasons with (1995-2002). Now in his 14th NHL season, he has appeared in 996 career games, scoring 232 goals and 388 assists for 620 points and 776 penalty minutes. A two-time Stanley Cup Champion (Dallas 1999, New Jersey 2003), Langenbrunner’s four career playoff overtime goals are tied-for-first (also Chris Drury) among active players.

“We are very excited to add Jamie to our team,” said Nieuwendyk. “He fits the mold of the type of players we want on this roster – strong work ethic, tough, passionate, and hard to play against. All of our fans got to see first-hand what kind of a player Jamie is when he broke into the league in the nineties and was part of our Stanley Cup team in 1999. We are thrilled to be able to bring him back to Dallas.”

Langenbrunner positively a Dallas STAR. Conditional pick. Could be as high as first round if he re-signs. -Eklund-

So this is the latest.. If it's done, where do we put him??

EDIT: No this is: The first would include the Devils giving the Stars a second..Details still sketchy, but a team in this sweeps confirmed Dallas is the team -Eklund-

So, years after Joe Nieuwendyk and Jamie Langenbrunner are traded to New Jersey, Stars GM Nieuwendyk brings Langenbrunner back to Dallas.

Full circle!

Not happy giving up a first, hope the condition is something like winning a cup. Otherwise great move, fits perfectly into our second line. Right handed RW for Ribs.

I don't like giving up a first (even if it is a conditional one) but I guess it can't be worse than giving up a first for Nagy.

Anyway I am happy to see Langenbrunner back

It's Eklund so take it for what its worth, but Eklund stated that the condition was if he was re-signed in the summer. Can't see that happening but ya never know.

The current version of the rumor has it a swap of a first for a second round pick if the condition is reached (so NJ would get Dallas' first but Dallas would get NJ's second).

That seems to change every few minutes, and for all I know, he's actually being traded to Minnesota, so take it as you will.

Now they're saying his equipment's still in his locker, may have been much ado about nothing.

Lou should have a presser shortly though, hopefully we know soon.

Well NJ doesn't have a 2011 2nd so it would have to be a 2012

Could it be like Gurein to the pens three years ago.
..

Conditional pending the round of the playoffs the stars advance too..

if memorey serves guerins condition was

1st round eliminination for the pens NYI get a 4th
2nd round exit a 3rd
conference finals or make the stanley cup finals a second

win cup a 1st.

maybe somethjing like that??

or maybe a guaranteed second, which turns into a 1st pending dallas making the conference finals??

That makes a lot more sense than whatever Eklund is trying to put out there.

Looks like it won't happen tonight. Wouldn't surprise me if it falls through.

Some person posted this on Twitter and it sounds legit, but its only a prediction.

Brian Engbloom just said on the Avs post game show that Dallas is the likely destination for Langenbrunner.

Think Heika is being reasonable on this:

Quote:
I know that nothing is happening tonight _ at least not officially.
...
If Joe Nieuwendyk has been clear about anything, it's that he values his draft picks and his prospects, and he will not part with either very easily. So that means that Dallas might not be willing to make an offer that will suit the Devils.
...
All of the information leaks seem shut down on this end, so my guess is anything out there on Twitter is coming from out East...The other theory is that the Devils are actually leaking the information to stir the pot and make it appear that the demand for Langenbrunner is high. They have pretty much said he will be be traded, so they lose some ``hand'' when other teams know that. The best way for the Devils to get control is to start a bidding war.

I'm sure the Stars have interest in Langenrbunner. I'm sure they don't want to overpay for him. That could make Friday something big or just another day. We'l just have to wait and see.

If Joe has been clear about anything it's that he values leadership, character, and postseason experience. He's also made it clear that this team is not in some sort of rebuild but a retool win-now mode. He also said that the lenders approved his adding to the payroll at the trade deadline (technically he never mentioned 'adding payroll' but he said that he got permission to be a buyer at the deadline...which has to mean add to payroll otherwise he wouldn't need their permission to make dollars in, dollars out trade).

I really think this is a case where Heika is putting too much into one set of paramaters that Joe has laid out to the exclusion of other parameters that, on occasion, appear to fly in the face of the former. Logic dictates that if he got permission to seek an upgrade at the deadline then he would in all likelihood be adding to payroll and not trading roster players of significant contract. That same line of thinking would dictate that that upgrade would come via picks/prospects, or at very least roster player and picks/prospects.

Nick Kypreos via Twitter: Late last nite my info said Lou was sleeping on Devils #Langenbrunner either going to Stars or Bruins. Heard Bost needed to sweeten pot.

I did see Eklund claim that Lou made this whole thing public (talking about waiving NTC and pulling him from game) because Dallas' offer wasn't good enough for Lou. Hopefully GM Joe doesn't get crazy and dump anything of great value for Langs. He'd fit in with the team, but they could have him for zero assets in the summer. He's only 35.

My only question is whether or not he will play with the heart and intenisy had did AFTER we traded him in the first place. Before we traded him he was just mailing it in every night unless there was a fight to get him pumped up.

Darren Dreger via Twitter: Dallas still seems like Langenbrunner's likely destination. Boston is not involved.

Well that's two of the best in the biz saying Dallas is closer to becoming a reality.

I know something could still change, but do you wanna talk lines? What do you do with Benn?

Tom Gulitti via Twitter: Devils have scheduled 10:30A.M. conference call. At this point, my info (like others) is that Langenbrunner has been traded to Dallas.

I think this is pretty official. He is the NJ Devil beat writer. Most deferred to him last night.
