Interesting selections. Odd that none of the Alternates are their team's captain.

On the broadcast tonight, Laughlin noted that the captains picked their alternates. Staal picked Green.

EDIT: But he's wrong: http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=350522

The foursome was chosen by the league and players association based on input from the all-star players and revealed Saturday morning.

What I dont understand is how do you pick Alternates if the teams havent been drafted yet. I mean what if 3 of those guys end up on the same team?? Or am I missing something

The point is that those players can't be drafted now. They're assigned to the respective teams (St. Louis and Kane to Lidstrom, Kesler and Green to Staal).

Once again, St. Louis goes undrafted.

You guys heard anything on Neuvirth's injury status? Is Holtby going to pose any kind of a threat AFA being Varlamov's backup?

Ken Hitchcock just said it on NHL Live. He said in the east the most interesting thing to watch will be, "teams trying to avoid being in that 4 and 5 spot. there are going to be teams in the 4 and 5 spot that think they can go to the Stanley Cup and one of them is going home in the first round. That would be a bitter pill."

Unless the Caps and Pens win those divisions, its stacking up for a Caps v Pens first round.

Both MTL and NYR are knocking on our door for that fifth spot.

So did I miss something? Is Nate Ewell leaving the team? The nerd quotient around the Caps' twitterverse is going to take a hit.

good for him, I know that's a passion of his. Who's going to scream at the TSN talking heads when they disrespect the Caps now?

ajcthrashers (Chris Vivlamore) | Evander Kane will not play Wednesday vs. Caps. Andrew Ladd questionable.

Also, Enstrom injured for 2-3 weeks.

No surprise: Perrault, Beagle, and Holtby assigned to Hershey.

I wonder if any of them will be back after the break.

Definitely not a surprise with the break plus Hershey's postponed game from last night is tonight and the Bears play Saturday afternoon. Also, Holtby and the AHL ASG. Holtby being recalled obviously is dependent on Neuvirth's health and dare I say it, Varlamov staying healthy during the break.

As to the roster with Bradley and King off IR: if Semin returns they will have 12F counting King and Semin so I think at least 1 forward will be added after the break (unless sonething else happens.)

As a follow-up, Leone tweeted: "Perry, Beagle just paper transactions. Both went home for all-star break. Holtby won't dress tonight, maybe Fri. Ford backing up Sabs."

still possible 1 could end up not being recalled but that's the latest info.
