Agreed. Not even drinkable.

Right up there with A.G.D. (Alberta Genuine Draft) and T.N.T.

This is why living in the U.S. is better for beer drinkers. $9 for an 18 pack of Busch Light.

Cheap. Tastes decent. You can get it at any gas station. Gets you lit.

Remember currency differences and that Canada taxes alcohol higher

p.s. I agree that Lucky Lager isn't even drinkable

What ever happened to Henry Weinhardts? That was a great budget beer back in the day

Goesser from Austria is usually $1.80/can and Faxe and other Danish brews around the same.

That's 5 litres of beer for under $12!

Even though it's not chilled Superstore's Liquor store is the best for this from what I've found in and around Edmonton.

It's great, show up to a party with 6 Tuborgs for just under $12 and have near just as much beer as the poor soul that brought a 12 pack of bud for more.

$29 for 24? That's absurd. It's about $16 for 30 Miller High Life here.

Awful piss-like beer is typically that cheap.

Good cheap beer in Quebec --> La Fin du Monde and Maudite.

Exactly.

You can get more beer, better quality (at least I find German/Danish beers to be better than Canadian) at a lower price simply for thinking outside the box.

You can have way more better tasting beer for less than you would spend on a pack of 24 of the domestic stuff. It's certainly an option if you are looking to save money and nothing beats Goesser beer at $1.80/500 ml. You can have a great weekend by yourself for under $20.

A lot of people don't seem to understand beer prices, apparently. Canadian, not on sale, is 39.95. Pretty sure that's where Kokanee is, as well. It's not cheap beer.

Here's a list of beers that I drink for cheap beers. But I don't drink light beers so there are a lot more out there as well.

James Ready 5.5.
Carling Lager
PBR
McClays

There are a tonne of cheap beers nowadays, a lot of great deals, too. I bought a 24 of Keiths last weekend for 34.95 which is 5 bucks off.
Kokanee is cheap out West. At least, it was when I lived in Alberta.

Wowww... that is shamefully expensive for such terrible beer.

In Ontario, Kokanee is $40 for a case of 24 bottles, $46 for 24 cans

Yes.

I prefer German and Belgian beers when I do drink it. Hacker-Pschorr Weiss is very good and Belgian fruit beers are amazing. I also like Leffe Weiss and Brun, which sort of tastes like roasted oats and apples.

Expensive stuff (there are better/more expensive beers, I know) but well worth it.

Keystone is good for the price, I've heard good things about busch. Blue is tolerable for the price too. Canadian is over priced crap, might as well just drink carling and save yourself some money.

Sleeman makes really good beer across the board, but it's $40 for a 24. They usually have sales though on a certain kind. Currently Sleeman draught is on sale for $32.95 for a 24 at the beer store, if I'm not mistaken. Sleeman Cream ale is just awesome, but it's not on sale right now. When it does go back on sale for $33 or whatever, pick some up. It's worth the few extra bucks (and it's still WAY cheaper than going to a bar).

Those are expensive in Ontario, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who's just looking to get drunk, they're more of a beer snob's kind of brand.

I'm not going to read the whole thread but if you're in Western Canada just avoid Lucky Lager, I never thought 15 beer for 12 dollars could be a bad investment, I was wrong. Personally I like Keystone but I know it's available in the states and won't be offended if you say it sucks. If you're in Saskatchewan drink Pilsner, not cheap, not expensive. But if you say you're from the states and are drinking it you will make friends. Also say go Riders if you're in the province.

I do. It really is an acquired taste and you really need to find a beer that suits you. Some people enjoy the lighter (usually smoother) taste of different beers, some like a heavier stout, others like a pilsner or lager. Also depends on the occasion as well. People just need to try a variety of stuff, I guarantee you will find one that you enjoy the taste of. At least better than others.

Slightly OT: My biggest pet peeve when it comes to drinking beer is people saying that all beer tastes the same. Those people are: a) inexperienced with beer in general or different beers, b) people who just drink it when partying, c) simply don't drink enough of it.

Not really. You may be able to get a better quality but you definitely don't save money (enough anyway) nor do you get more. You get what you pay for. If I wanted a 24 worth of beer in bottles I'd need roughly 17 at 1.95 (you forgot to add 15 cents deposit I'd imagine) so now I'm spending 4 more bucks than cheap beer but also need to go to LCBO and grab 17 tall boys and also make sure I keep track of all the cans to return. In the long run it's a big hassle when I could just go to the Beer Store and look for sales or just buy **** beer. I would agree that if you're drinking 10 TBs in a night or the whole weekend then sure, but for a university student it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Think you're looking at around 15 for a 12-pack for this, can't quite remember, tastes decent enough, and yeah, 6.1%. This is what you're looking for.

Meh, IMO, none of it tastes "good", just ok or drinkable. I mean, personally, if beer carried no social implications or didn't get me buzzed, I wouldn't touch the stuff.

Some of it is vile (PBR, Lucky). I find most beer to be ok at best unless it is on tap in which case it isn't a chore to drink at all.
