Ok, that's what I thought too. I didn't think Kokanee was a "cheap beer" either.

Here's a list of all the "cheap" beer that is sold in Ontario. I don't know the prices for other provinces though.

Going through the thread I forget what part of Canada you'll be in...
If you're anywhere near the Quebec border it's worth your time to cross over and get a bunch and bring it back. Saves you about 10 dollars per case of anything.

That said, the cheapest stuff is still more expensive than the most expensive stuff in the US. Of course American beer is a piss water fusion.

Cheap and Beer doesn't exist in Ontario. Not positive of the rest of the provinces, other than Q.

And all of you guys like "Oh this is 10% Alc." or showing Black ice or whatever that's 6.1%, and saying this'll get you F-d UP!!!!, are idiots. If the only point is to get completed dismantled why not just take a few shots 151 rum? You don't drink beer for the sole purpose of getting destroyed, that's just the eventual end result. But it's not the destination, with beer, it's the journey.

I live near Toronto.

And for me, whenever I drink, it's with a bunch of friends (not so much at a party though) and the desired result from drinking is either getting buzzed or drunk (depending on the mood and people I'm with). Obviously I would prefer the beer to be as best tasting as it can (for a cheap price since I'm a student)..

Also,isn't 151 rum fairly expensive

151 isn't necessarily what you should drink, but hard liquor will do better for a cheaper(maybe the bottle won't be cheaper, but overall) than beer will be.

I've calculated this before. Beer has more alcohol per $ then any hard liquor does (in Ontario)

That and Olympia. Not sure if they make that anymore either. Regardless you Canadiens pay way to much for beer.

$15.99 for a pack of 15.

It's surprisingly really enjoyable.

Quick question: why is keg beer so much more expensive then buying in cans/bottles?

Most of it is the deposit/delivery etc.

These beauties are pretty good value for anyone who lives in Calgary and Edmonton.

Cariboo! 15.40 for a 12 at the BC Liquor Stores. 5.5%. Tastes decent. (Better than Canadian or Kokanee or general swill) aaaaaaaand they donate to the fight against pine beetles or something.

Or plant trees? I forget.

I'd learn to brew your own beer, given the garbage choices offered in the four pages of this thread. It will turn out to be the most economically viable and least diarreah inducing option for you. Trust me; your worst batch will taste better than anything anyone has recommended so far. You don't want to have to run out of a final to tend to gastronomic distress from economy beer. Been there.

Damn. It's usually <30 for a 24 here in Edmonton. They also have 8's for like 11-12 bucks. Same thing for Canadian.

Big Rock is a beer I like as well. But I haven't had it in a while, so I don't know how cheap it is.

Brewhouse is also good for cheap.

Keystone is garbage. I had some playing shinny the other day and it started to freeze and turn into a slush. Wtf.

Agreed, I don't think I've ever had a cheap beer I really like... though I tend to avoid them whenever possible now, anyway. They usually taste either awful or like nothing (watery) and are much more likely to give you hangovers (or worse ones).

Awesome minds think alike. I was going to say he should chip out the extra money for Keith's, it's worth it.

Alcohol in Canada (or at least in Ontario) is significantly more expensive than south of the border. A 6-pack is usually in the $12 range ($10ish for cheap stuff), 12-pack is $20-25, and a 24 is like $30-40 (I think imported stuff like Heineken can be $45).

Lowest legal prices after the HST implementation:
24-pack of 5% beer: $25.95 (+ $2.40 deposit)
750mL of spirits: $22.80 (I'm not sure what uses this floor.. stuff like Crown, Captain, etc., is like $35-40)

BTW: do you own a car? Take a road trip:

http://www.dutyfree.ca/beer.aspx

Though I'm not really sure if the gas cost would override the savings, I've never driven. I'm also not really sure it's legal if you're not crossing the border.

Good cheap beer in Quebec --> La Fin du Monde and Maudite.
High Life is king of cheap beers. Clear yellow, very carbonated, but pleasant, and certainly beer-like. Nicely shaped bottle, excellent aesthetices. Some might say the Champagne of Beers.

La Fin is a great deal in Quebec though. 4 or 5 bucks for the 750mL is perfect, alcohol equivalent of about 5 light beers and an excellent flavor. Though you can only drink so much of it before you get heartburn.

I second this. La Fin du Monde is my favourite beer. After trying it, I can't even touch the cheap stuff any more.
