Standings look ugly this morning - 12th, 13th if Columbus makes hay with their games in hand. OTOH, we're only 3 pts out of 4th, though the Preds have 2 in hand as well.

Nobody in the pack is running away from anyone else. The Hawks need to iron out their issues with PK and defense, get on a roll, and they'll vault to top five in the conference. They have the talent.

Edzo was stressing it the other night. Simplify, advance the puck, stop with the cute passes and skating through traffic. All fixable. I'd feel worse if we were getting outshot 40-18 and 37-22.

I agree everything is fixable and the recipe seems fairly simple as Edzo points out. Fact is we have alot of talent on this team and there are games where the Hawks seems to get it and play well YET it seems as though this teams lets down when it should buck up.

The Hawks have at least one POOR quarter a game. Watching the passing this year is almost surreal for me ...its like many of the returning players are making passes that they feel they could have made last year but in fact they are being intercepted and outraced to the puck. Last years team simply "out hustled" many teams - if an opponent skated really hard they could keep up for a quarter but not for a whole game. This year I feel the exact opposite is true.

The team seems to be scoring enough its just that we are horrible in the Goals against average /game - almost in the bottom third. As pointed out though we are not getting blown out....it seems to be the mental letdowns. The play off teams are only too happy to take advantage of these letdowns and the problem is SOOO many of them are happening by guys like Seabrook, Keith and Hammer. It must be difficult for Q to criticize guys like Cullimore and Boynton when they do it too.

The Hawks being 12th in the super tight West isn't nearly as bad as it looks. When you take into consideration the fact that only 3 points separates 4th from 12th, things start to ease up. All it takes is a few consecutive wins and the team is right back in the thick of things. If they're still a few spots out from the playoffs a month from now, you've got a reason to panic.

The Hawks D is terrible this year, and two of their big offensive guns have been very quiet, (Hossa and Kane). They'll most likely get into the playoffs the way Philly did last season, (if at all), but they won't go nearly as far! The Hawks got rid of some of the wrong guys at the end of last season! Keith and Kane could be HUGE trade bait....just sayin!

We've had a bad first half of the season, obviously the thing to do is trade our #1 d-man and our franchise winger.

Get real.

You're right! Call up Brian Burke! Maybe we can try to pry Phaneuf and Kadri from their hands?! Do you think Kane and Keith would be enough?

So, tonights games ended

Hawks defeated Sens
Canucks def oliers
Det def CGY in SO-not good both get points Detroit may reach uncatchable soon.
Ana def CBJ-Not bad, Anaheim had more games in hand
Rangers beat Dallas in SO-Not bad

All in all good night for the blackhawks

and currently are 8th, but with 4+ games on the 9th place team, I'd say we are still 11-12th in reality

#1 d-man? What are Keith's stats so far this season? Minus what? Or are you like someone else on this thread who believes Keith doesn't need to do well this season because he did so well last season? I'll conceded regarding Kane, he may still come around this season!

It really is too bad that Q is hand cuffed and can't afford to sit Keith for a stretch. I could understand him struggling to start the season but we are half way through and he continues to play lackadaisical pond hockey. Q did take him off the first pp but that that's about all he can do as every point will count in the second half. It is up to Keith to regain his form or we are in trouble....

We just locked him up long term at a bargain price and he's not playing like the best d-man in the league, obviously the solution is to trade him! Sure, he's been bad but Seabrook has made twice the amount of errors that Keith has but you're not calling for his head. Keith needs to do well but you need to understand that players slump and peak and trading Keith is at the top of the list of dumb things to do that could ruin our franchise. I suggest that you stop eating glue and chill out.

I think Q could afford to sit Keith, or at the very least play him less for a stretch, if Seabrook stepped up his game to last season's level. Fact is, both Keith and Seabs have been struggling and therefore every d-man is feeling the pressure to raise their game.

However, I think Keith has been playing better and hopefully it's not too much longer before he's back in form. He looked good last night... let's hope the trend continues. Seabrook is a different story.

The team's play IMO is a combination of some very players making huge long term guaranteed money, winning the cup and realizing they will be lifetime heroes in Chicago regardless of what happens going forward.

Essentially human nature to be where they are. Now, the question is do they stay where they are or rise above.

Stats must be taken with a grain of salt but the following is telling:

Keith - 48 giveaways, 40 takeaways, minus 5, 25 hits

Seabrook - 40 giveaways, 20 takeaways, minus 4, 128 hits

Neither has been impressive. 25 hits in 43 games is ........ (insert word)

you expect Hits from Keith? This isn't his style and never will be.

Search for things that seem not so good and use them to your favor....
Seabrook Hits, Keith clears. This was, is and will always be so.

Since before Friday's game, the Hawks have gone from 12th to 8th to 11th to 6th in the conference. That's what you call a log jam.

Last season Keith had 46 and the season before 40. So he's on pace for last seasons numbers. Sometimes I wonder whether posters even know our players...

The interesting thing though, their giveaway numbers are almost as much as they were all of last season, and they still have almost 40 games to go.

And comparing stats from last year doesn’t make much sense either. This years team is vastly different and our puck possession game is not what it was. A dman must adapt to that, especially a Norris Trophy winner. No one expects Keith to throw crunching body checks, simply a rubbing out along the boards and finishing checks will usually do the job. But a poke check is inviting trouble and unfortunately that’s what he often resorts to.

Having said that, last night our puck possession was much improved and that's the style of game that Keith excels in. I hope that trend continues when we play stronger opposition.
