The fact that he received 4 minutes for doing what he did should be an indicator to Edmonton fans that he was more than just "roughing up" Samuelsson.

Oh yes, the Canucks won by a 5-goal margin tonight. Must be time for this thread yet again.

Seriously, we get it. Yes, AV whined after the Chicago game. We remember. There's really no need to drag it up with a fresh thread after every single time the best team in the league clobbers a hopeless basement dweller.

Oh Oilers, have you guys ever considered not sucking?

I think the franchise won 5 Cups and came with one game of winning a sixth a few years ago.

C'mon brah, don't turn this into a ****fest.

yeah when they beat our ***** over and over again during the 80's. No problems running up the scores to pad Gretzky's 200 point seasons.

if there is one team that the foot should never be lifted off of, it is the Oilers.

The concept of "running up the score" simply does not apply to any competitive sport, let along a professional sport.

Does anything else really need to be said?

He asked when the Oilers haven't sucked so I told him. What do you want me to do? Remind him that the Oilers have won the same amount of playoff rounds as the Canucks since the lockout? =o

You guys get offended way too easily. Lighten up.

honestly though i'm not defending AV. The Canucks deserved to have the score run up against them in that game.

Edit: however i will acknowledge the fact that games where the score gets run up tend to cause players to do stupid things with ill intent.

Personally not a big fan of it, and I'm a Leaf fan who watched them do it tonight.

I think that as a coach, you want to instill good habits, and you don't want the team turning on cruise control, but at the same time, you don't want them getting hurt or playing overly physical in a blowout meaningless 3rd period. Plus, the last thing you need is bulletin board material for your next game agaisnt said team.

I think that if you get into this kind of position, the best way to handle it is to put your team in a full 4-line rotation, possibly even trying to get the bottom lines more ice, and focus on protecting a lead. At least use it for practice, as the other team will usually be playing with more regard for offence than defence.

Then again, starting Colton Orr, Tim Brent, and Brett Lebda as the forwards on a 2:30 powerplay to start the 3rd period is possibly more insulting than sending out Kessel's line or the MacArthur-Grabo-Kulemin unit who were all looking for hat tricks.

3rd period went like this

4-1 canucks, oiler player takes a shot at Samuelsson when he is already down. gets a double minor.

AV sends out the sedins on the PP and Kesler scores his hat trick goal.

AV sends out glass and Co. to play the second part of the PP. Glass knocks hemsky down. Hemsky chases him around starts a scrum, takes a penatly.

AV responds to goonery by sending out the sedins again, they score again.

Quite simple, you goon it up in a blowout they will run up the score. You play to run out the clock and you get to play against the 4th liners ont he power play.
Precisely how I felt too.

both Van and Tor needed to send a message for cheapshots from opposing team.

normally Van sends out there 2nd or third unit but in this case it was important to send out the top unit

dont know why hemsky was angry wasnt he trying to check the puck carrier--glass ---and was flattened himself
