Value of Ryan Jones?

With all this talk about Oilers players being dealt at the trade deadline, a lot of people have been talking about players like Hemsky and Penner, and some of the D-men. I just wanted to see if any people thought their team could use a player like Ryan Jones and what his value could be. I would like to see him re-signed to Edmonton but I wonder what the interest will be in him at the deadline as he can play a pretty solid 3rd/4th line role, adds some grit/physicality/energy, and has had some scoring success this year as well. As a role player, he might be one of the depth forwards a competing team could look for. Does anybody see the Oilers trying to deal him? If so, what type of value do you think he could have?

Edmonton is not going to let him slip. He will be resigned. It will be a massive mistake to let him walk.

Yeah, trade our only legitimate bottom-sixer. That makes sense.

I don't disagree with you previous posters. He totally deserves to be resigned and I think he has a lot of value on this team. I just was curious what people thought would be offered for him by other teams at the deadline as he will likely have more value than some of the other trade bait mentioned on other threads.

He already makes 975 K this year. I dont see him going below that on contract negotiations after the year he is having.

I wasn't suggesting they trade. There is no "value of" title in these oilers threads, only in the Trade Propsal area. So I had to list it as a "Proposal"

He's not as good as he seems. He's real lucky right now. I'll look up the stats later but id trade him for a 3rd.

I just don't see a guy like this being traded.

He either walks or we re sign him. Bottom 6 players like jones are the kind of guys that are worth way more to the team they are on than what someone else would value them at in a trade.

At best i could see him being worth a late round pick from a contender, but we shouldn't even think about it.

Jones is hitting, agitating, getting into scrums, etc. On top of all that, he is scoring which is always good from a bottom sixer.

Jones is exactly what the bottom 6 needs, he and reddox should be in the long term bottom 6 plans. Not afraid to be gritty, can score occasionally, really fast, and just seem like overall great guys.

Jones value to us >>>>>>>> value of anyone asking about him.

Letting him go would be about as bad as when we let GlenX go. I could just see a line of glencross brodziak and jones right now.. that would be a hell of a third line.

Lucky? Maybe he's getting a few bounces, but this guy has earned every single goal he's got. He never takes a shift off and you always know what to expect.

His value goes far beyond his point totals, whether they be "lucky" or not.

Also, i'd love to see these stats.

Ryan Jones is part of this rebuild, we'd be too silly to trade the one guy that does show emotion in any circumstance.

Oilers should not let this guy walk like they did with Glencross. A fine bottom 6 grinder that can chip in offensively as well.

I agree and all through his amateur career he posted good goal scoring numbers he will be a constant 20 goal man who gives a great effort every game

Who says we let him walk if we trade him? He's a UFA at the end of the season, talk to him beforehand and let him know you'd like to sign him in the summer heck even work out the frame of a deal but tell him your going to get a draft pick for him to try and help the team. If he agrees great if not and he doesnt agree to a contract extension and wants to see what's out there in the summer then trade him since it sounds like your going to lose him anyways.

I like to keep him but just for 2 years but I am ready to give him 1M a year. He will be 27 next year and is already in his peak years. He is a good transition player for us.

Due diligence. He clearly wants to play here. At 12 mill per as Smith said. When he scores 50 genos in a season that is. If you're asking the value of Jones at this stage. I say priceless. A Junior B player turned NHL caliber. Sign him for two more years.

His shooting percentage implies that Jones has had many bounces go his way.
His SPCT is about 17%...completely unsustainable but that probably wont stop Tambo from signing Jones for too much money.
