New Goalie Rotation - Win, and You Keep Playing

Murray upset with after-whistle scrum:

Any video of Murray being "upset"? Didn't happen without youtube...

Murray’s new goalie message: win, and you’re in

http://lakingsinsider.com/2011/01/16...-and-youre-in/

Quote:
`He won,” Terry Murray said. “He won. He’s playing. He won. Period.”

Of course, the Kings face back-to-back games, with a game Tuesday at St. Louis. What happens, in the St. Louis game, if Bernier gets the win against the Stars?

“Then he might go again,” Murray said. “We’re going to win some games. We’re going to go with a lineup that’s winning. We’ve got to win.”
Too bad Simmonds is hurt and we are stuck with Westgarth. I would rather call up Moller and move Lewis to the 4th line.

Murray with some coaching and emotion?

I'm ok with Murray trying to catch a little lightning in a bottle and seeing if Bernier can develop the hot hand. In terms of talent level Bernier isn't exactly like most #2 goalies in the NHL.

Bernier also performs better with more work. Quick hasn't been much better than Bernier in January.

Can they keep playing with the throwback jersey's as well? After all, they are 2-0 with them.

Maybe Quick needs the rest and motivation but he was the Kings best player much of the season and has earned the #1 job.

Ridiculous... Bernier just won his first game since... when? Terry Murray will remove Quick as the no. 1 when he saved the Kings so many times this year??

I like to see Bernier do well but Terry Murray gotta gives some respect to Quick...

Right when you think Quick has the position locked down, he starts to struggle and opens up a great opportunity for Bernier. I like what TM is doing here, let the two battle it out down the stretch. It also gives Quick an opportunity to stay fresh, something that TM failed to manage last season.

Quick's won 1 game in his last 6 starts. Yes, it's not all Quick's fault considering how poor the team has been playing lately but Bernier deserves a shot. Murray's given Quick plenty of respect; he keeps going to Quick after bad games, and rightfully so as Quick has shown an ability to bounce back (50 save shutout at Detroit after those 2 terrible blunders in the Minnesota game). But this team desperately needs wins, and a good way to help that is to let the goalies know that wins will be rewarded.

Finally!

Desperation time maybe...

TM might be using this as a motivation to challenge Quick. Maybe he got too comfortable or something. In any case, it is what it is.

Or just put Harrold on the fourth line while we wait and see if Simmonds will be out long term. I think Harrold does a very good job when he is asked to come in to play d or on the 4th line for a game here or there. Hes easy to make fun of but he is actually pretty reliable and consistent.

I'm all for playing the hot goalie and such like TOR did with Reimer and how maybe TB should be doing with Desjardins but over at usatoday.com they have Quick listed as nursing a knee injury? Maybe just a little rest for him?

P.S. Nothing wrong with letting the goalies' natural competitiveness help raise the level of play.
Liker a Goalie controversey could possibly hurt this team right now?

Watching Bernier's hockey career at all levels, he does thrive on workload.

I have to wonder if Murray would have went to this "win and you play" mentality if Dean Lombardi didn't send down Bernier to the AHL last season?

This is further proof Terry Murray has lost control.

I guess it would make more sense if Bernier was the hot hand, but he was very average vs Edmonton, but meh, if a few starts in a row helps him find his form, its only good for the team

None of them are the "hot hand" right now.
Murray put a challenge to two competitive young kids. Get the wins and you get the games. Makes a lot of sense. Since the 51-save game vs. Detroit Quick has been 4-7 in 10 full and 2 half games allowing 30 goals. 21 goals allowed in the last 6 starts. That's not hot either. It's not even luke-warm.

Sticking with Quick hasn't been the solution recently either.

One of the kids need to step up and provide enough goaltending to get the wins and help the team grow in confidence. Something that seems to be lacking.

Ask Ottawa Senators fans how well "win and you're in" philosophy works.

Note: this occurred during the 2007-2008 season.

LAST year, not this year.

Quick has cost this team points this year. Bernier has too, but hey, what have you done for me lately?

This is also a not-so-subtle way of keeping Quick's regular season games played down to a reasonable number.
