I think they should give Kuznetsov a chance, if his KHL team allow it. But Kitzyn was allowed to leave his team so i don't think it's impossible.

And i really think the Caps should try to trade Neuvirth & a pick for Anders Lindback (preds) and get super solid goaltending with him & Varlamov. A 6'6", really skilled goalie that's been outstanding playing for Nashville so far this year. Lindback would challange Varlamov even more than Neuvie does and bring his game to the next level.

What's the point of trading a rookie goalie and a pick for another rookie goalie for a playoff run? Varly will be our playoff starter, unless he gets inured again that is.

Yes, more rookies is a great formula for playoff success.

Horrible thread

Needs more Vokoun or Chris Phillips to even make a shred of sense

if the caps could acquire the previous alex ovechkin and last season's nicklas backstrom and alex semin, i'd say they'd have a shot at the cup. the question is, are those players available?

BB needs to let the once best line in the league go back to the old strategy. The new strategy will get the caps far with the other 3 lines using it.

A good balance of rookies, primes, and vets wins cups. Not just a team of rooks.

Dress King more.

I'd like to see a #2 center but that's it. Our goaltending/defense feels set to me. I'm not sure I want MP85 in during the playoffs.

Finish the year healthy. And then protect the goalies Semin and Green. Apply the regular seasons lessons learned on how to overcome adversity. Add depth at C and D at the deadline without blowing a nut.

and the d-man we need at the deadline doesn't have to be that great a d-man. I'm fine with adding a bottom pair man, as long as it is a legit bottom pair man. I just want an extra buffer for injury before TFS gets in.

The #2C has to be the real focus.

I don't think management is as focused on depth as last year. Lots of complaints from the players/Bruce IIRC.

Goc, Arnott, Connolly... one of those three. Probably in that order. I'd put MP, A. Gordon, Bouchard, and P.McNeill on that table as options for the return.

If Varly goes down again, then Vokoun.

I'd also offer Semin to Dallas for Richards, but I doubt they'd take that.

if mcphee is right. believing he needs 10 d to get thru a long playoff run, i would say they need at least one more. even with that sloan will play.

1. Attempt to fleece someone out West with a Semin deal.

2. Bring in Jason Arnott.

3. Pray.

We'll need a Delorean, a long stretch of road, and some plutonium!

Arnott just scored a goal vs Tampa. His first goal in 16 games. He'll fit right in with the Capitals.

Thus ends what you know about Jason Arnott.

The Devils suck.

Goc is a 3rd line center not a 2nd line center. Id rather have Connolly but thats just my opinion

I know where Goc plays, but I think he could fit well.

He's putting up similar numbers to Connolly this year. I might well agree with you, but I seeing it taking a lot to get Connolly.

Connolly? Seriously? No thanks. Imagine Semin as a center with less skill.

I want Arnott and that's pretty much it. Frankly, I think it would be wrong to add anything else. Beyond wasting resources, I think that the log jam we had at certain positions last year did not serve us well down the stretch. We had like 3-4 guys coming in and out of the lineup every single game and I think it may have hurt on-ice chemistry to some degree.

Particularly on D, I want our top 6 to be our top 6 nearly every single game. Obvious if guys get banged up, you spell them. But the kids should play as much as possible, Green should stick with one partner as much as possible, etc.

This season should be all about honing the roster to peak at the right time. I couldn't care less about home ice, seeding, etc. Be primed for the playoffs, and we'll do serious damage.

home ice advantage is almost required to win the cup. the results pretty well prove that.
it was posted elsewhere. a team below 5 has never one. a team at 5 has only won once.

at somepoint the cup winner needs a series that is less than life or death. you dont tend to get those below two or three in the seeding order.

i have my questions about arnott, but will pass on them if McPhee buys him up. I do think with the injuries Poti has had the last 18 months that it would be smart to get some insurance there. Last season McPhee had Carlson and Alzner as spares. Right now the spares are Erskine and Sloan. One more player would be a good idea.

BTW...I see Patty McNeill is playing again. Maybe he will be ready in time to get some games in March?
