Phillips to SJS

Want to get some thoughts? If SJS are firmly in a playoff position then I think they could add to their defence. Ottawa needs to add some youth and speed. So I propose:

To SJS:
Phillips and Lee - after thinking about it I'd rather move Kuba to get his money off the books but I think SJS would prefer Phillips.

To OTT:
Setoguchi, Doherty, 2011 2nd (I'd like the 1st but think it would be pushing it but who knows)

Why. Setoguchi has had 2 bad years. Still has some promise and may need a fresh start. I think a Lee for Seto would be fair swap. That would leave Doherty and 2nd for Phillips. Considering what other recent deals that have occurred this could be a fair trade off for SJS to make if it meant solidifying their defence.

Ottawa would be adding some speed and youth in the deal. With the addition of Doherty as a prospect dman, Ottawa could focus on forwards and goalies to add to cupboard. Setoguchi is still young and cheap. He is also and RFA at seasons end so it wouldn't be like the scenario with Cheechoo where the Sens were suck with a big contract.

We'd actually probably prefer Kuba, even though Phillips is a lot better.

Sharks overpay, and Doherty wont be going anywhere. Sens and Sharks wont make a trade again but yeh Matt's right Kuba would be the guy we'd want, has a much better shot

Huskins and a 2nd, and we'll throw in a prospect to compensate for Huskins -Not Dohetry though.

Setoguchi has not had 2 bad years. He's had 2 years that aren't as good as his first year in the league, during which he did absolutely nothing hockey-wise other than float in the offensive zone and shoot.

He's had a couple of injuries, he's worked on other aspects of his game, and as a guy who just turned 24 he's still not as consistent as he should be. He actually has some defensive awareness now. He hits a LOT more than he did the first year. He's a good forechecker. And he's turning into a decent player along the boards. None of those are things he did his first year and he's still getting better.

But I'm tired of both Sharks fans and other fans somehow thinking Seto has done nothing the last couple of years and that he's available as a throw-in or has negligable trade value.

I'd like Setoguchi despite his offensive woes.

If this deal didn't put us over the cap, Wilson would do this.

Sadly, we'd need to send salary the other way ie. Huskins.

Kuba for McGinn straight up?

Or Kuba for a 2nd + expiring contract dump (Huskins, Wallin)

Or Kuba for Seto + dump

Or Phillips for Seto + dump

Or Phillips for McGinn + 3rd + dump

Tons of options.

It would be Wallin and a 2nd in an ideal world. However, it would realistically be Huskins instead if it were to occur. I don't think Murray will want to deal with Wilson though and there will be other teams that will want Kuba.

I doubt Murray really cares, business is business. We want a 2nd (hypothetically), if SJ is offering it, I'm sure Murray listens.

Just took a look at Capgeek and the deal would not put SJS over the cap. If Murray had to take on an extra cap hit then I'd hope an extra pick in a later year would be negotiated into it or an upgrade on the 2nd. I doubt Murray would say no to deal with SJS just because he got hosed on the heatley deal. It comes down to SJS wanting to compete in the playoffs.

How about you keep your second round pick and we take Huskins and prospect( say Charlie Coyle).

Nah. We don't make selections, especially in the first round, and give them up a year later.

Really? That seems like a mistake maybe you should start trading 1st rounders, didn't you hear, thats how you get ahead in this league

I'm surprised no one mentioned the fact that Ottawa waived Lee earlier this season and no one picked him up.

While Phillips to SJ makes some sense, it's not going to be for Setoguchi.
