2011 OHL Trade Deadline

Hello,

I'm getting tired of looking in alll the individual team threads to see the conversation on potential deals...so I thought I'd start a thread dedicated to the deadline...

On a Colts front: My son practiced at the BMC this morning and so I caught a bit of what was to be a Colts practice but instead ended up being what looked like a billet skate with the team... There didn't seem to be many players there though - and I didn't see Carnevale or Prout, for whatever that's worth.

Cheers,
Shawn

much better way of scouring for trades and rumours this way than each individual thread..thanks for starting it Shawn

Seems like a funny year, very quiet, unsure of who most of the sellers or buyers are. Having it more wide open made me think maybe teams would take the plunge but then again with more buyers and less sellers maybe the asking price went up??

^OHL is also a business venture for ownership and with the first two games of the play-offs sold as part of the season ticket package, teams not making the play-offs owe money back to fans. Not to mention the walk-up gate for the extra two home games if you make the play-offs.

Even say 3000 tickets sold per game at $20 bucks a shot - over two games that's $120,000 taken in, much less after expenses of course, but there will still be extra money going in the pocket of ownership.

So while there is parity and thus more buyers, there is also teams in 4th that are less than 10 points out of 9th, so in the past if a team was locked in 6th place they might sell for next year while still guaranteed to make the play-offs, that isn't the case this season. Only really four sellers - Hounds, Colts, Petes and Bulls. Wolves want to make the play-offs and with 5 picks in the first 50, they don't necessarily have to trade their graduating players for picks.

Confirmed by Colts via Twitter:

Colts say goodbye to D-man Stephen Gaskin. Traded today to Guelph for two picks in 2012. We'll miss you Gas! Good luck in Guelph!
Seems like a pretty decent return for a pretty decent defenceman.

Some of the second being throwen around are making me scratch my head and thinking some of the players are severally over valued.

Or maybe my expectation for a 2nd are different.

You're right. I was hoping for Kea. Still, given the situation on defence Lepkowski may be a better fit. Ashman helps to finish out the season if that's the deal. I hope there were picks too. Things are getting interesting...

Cheers,
Shawn

Im assuming there would be.

Ashman is included to balance out the OA's. Lepkowski is similar to Prout, and ahead of him in his development in his second full year. I was a fan of him a few years ago, and I think he could be a real get for the Colts.

This page seems up to date, all the transaction go here

Anyone close to Barrie know if they are looking to deal Beyers? I watched a couple games this year and he stood out, gets a lot of ice time. He is only a '92 so they may want to keep him but a few picks might be worth it for this rebuilding team

It's the official page, once the deals are...ummm...official. Until then you have to do some detective work...

I'm just a fan but I doubt they're trying to deal him. They just convinced him out of an NCAA commitment.

Cheers,
Shawn

Majors acquired Mikael Audette

Meaning Peters might be on the move and 2 OA's may be coming in to Mississauga

The Greyhounds made a minor move on Friday evening as they claimed goaltender Mickael Audette on waivers from the QMJHL’s Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

A native of Granby, Quebec, Audette is not expected to be a member of the Greyhounds for very long as the team expects to complete a cash transaction with the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors before Monday’s OHL trade deadline.

The picks going Barrie's way from the Gaskin trade:

The second rounder in 2012 was originally Barrie's (acquired from Guelph in the Matt Kennedy trade) as well as Guelph's own 4th rounder.

The Guelph Storm has also acquired C Daniel Erlich from the London Knights. Going London's way is a 2011 2nd rounder (originally Brampton's selection) as well as Guelph's 2nd in 2011 and 5th in 2013

Hello,

The Prout deal is official. Coming back to Barrie are:

Alex Lepkowski

Matt Ashman

Kit's 3rd Rnd '10

3rd Rnd '14

Not sure how I feel about this. Would have liked at least one 2nd.

Cheers,
Shawn

Thats probably the sign that its a fair deal for both sides. I think Lepkowski will be a player who surpasses Prout in two years as far as his future impact on the Colts. He was a potential 1st round pick in the 2009 OHL draft, but was unwilling to immediately commit to the OHL.

He will have a great opportunity to cash in that potential now.
