My point is simply that you cannot keep Crosby, Staal, Malkin, and Fleury together forever. If you can move Malkin for 2 top 6 wingers and free up some cap space why not do it.
Moving Malkin for 2 top 6 wingers (plus a good prospect) is a lot easier said than done. A team would have to be rich enough in wingers/prospects that trading 2 would not deplete them. There is no point in a team trading for Malkin if you leave him nothing to play with

Those two top 6 wingers, then, would have also had nobody to play with. In this case wouldn't having Malkin + nothing be better than 2 average top 6 wingers + nothing?

That could be argued but they wouldnt be 2 average top 6 wingers you would be getting for Malkin. Both would currently be good with room for further potential. the 2 top 6 wingers malkin would get traded for would be playing with Crosby & Staal. Lets say for example a deal around Nash + Vorachek for Malkin (add in picks or whatever to even things out) was made.

Tangradi - Crosby - Nash
Kunitz - Staal - Vorachek
