yet another draft day proposal for FLA's #7:

From forecaster's Draft day needs:
http://www.forecaster.ca/aolcanada/h...-draftDayNeeds

Potential surprise: Keeping the No. 7 overall pick. Keenan is expected to dangle his first-round pick in order to secure immediate help for the Florida franchise. He covets a power forward, a strong face-off specialist and veteran stabilizer along the blueline. The surprise would come if Keenan decides to hold onto his first-rounder.

Hmmm.... I wonder
powerforward - Isbister?
strong f/off - Horcoff?
Veteran stabilizer - Smith?

to FLA: Isbister, Horcoff, Smith, 1st round (25 overall)
to Edm: Weiss, 1st round (#7 overall)

Is value fair? I'm not very good at these trade proposals, although I HOPE I'm better than Mowzie

I would likely do it, but would Florida? Has anyone posted this on their board yet?

Yeah, I'd do it too. But I think there's a lot of Oil fans that seem to be underestimating the value and potential of Weiss.

Looks good to me. We've got a lot of guys who can do most of what Horcoff does, and Weiss has a lot more offensive upside. Moving up in the draft is always nice, Isbister is trade bait, and we have guys coming up that can eat some of Smith's minutes.

Whether Florida would go for it kinda depends how impatient they are. If they see Tampa's cup run and feel pressured to be competitive next year, they probably would, but Edmonton wins in the long run. That Keenan isn't real high on Weiss makes it look more likely too.

I agree. I had a hate-on for Horcoff as much as anyone during the begining of the year, but after his injury he picked up. It's been mentioned before that he's increased his production every year in the league. At this point I'd want to keep Horc and see if we could get away with putting Chimera in his place. Other wise the deal sounds pretty good

I don't think we can land two "potential" franchise players without putting one of our current franchise players Brewer or Smyth on the table. We could probably land either the 7th or Weiss for the right combination of the assets above, but to knab them both in the same deal even if comparable value is present, I don't see as being realistic.

P.S. Horcoff is still not very strong on face-offs that would have to be Stoll or Reasoner you'd think.

Florida won't deal Weiss for that

and I believe Horcoff more valuable then what poeple take him for
probably Izzy Smith and a 2nd round for 7th overall

That deal would not be accepted by Keenan, even I know that. I do think Weiss and the 7th are both on the block, but the assets they get in return just dont cut it. I dont think the retuen would help their playoff chances too much. I think you'd have to dangle more bait infront of him to pry Weiss and a 7th.

York/Torres/Hemsky/Smyth, Reasoner, Isbister, Smith and a 25th
for
Weiss, 7th and Huselius.

actually i dont think that trade whould work because in a recent newspaper article it stated that Weiss is no longer avaliable and that is due to Jacques Martin wanting to keep him and he is only being offered for deals for Ovechkin and players his calibre

FT. LAUDERDALE SUN-SENTINEL: Michael Russo reports the Florida Panthers have a few trade options they could look at involving their seventh overall pick. One possibility could be to package that pick and shoot for the first overall. Russo claims Caps GM George McPhee offered the pick to Panthers GM Mike Keenan for Jay Bouwmeester and the seventh overall but Keenan "quickly refused". Another might be to package that pick in a major trade with the Dallas Stars for forward Bill Guerin, whom the Stars are trying to shop before the 45-day "trade window" in his contract slams shut on July 22. It's believed Keenan is shopping Kristian Huselius, Niklas Hagman, and Matt Cullen, but he's unwilling to move core players like Bouwmeester, Nathan Horton, Anthony Stewart and Stephen Weiss. Keenan may also wait until July 1 and see what's available in this year's UFA market. If Keenan keeps his pick, he may consider shoring up his goaltending depth by drafting either Al Montoya or Marek Schwarz.
