Ottawa and LA

LA has lots of cap room - can add some significant pro-rated salaries. IMO, if LA can add a top 6 scoring forward and beef up blueline they could make a run for Western Conferece winner. Ottawa is looking to dump contracts - big time. Howabout the following:

To LA: Kovalev (UFA this summer), Phillps (UFA this summer)
To Ottawa: Parse and Harrold

Listen, I know Kovalev is a head case but he has proven he can still score - when he wants to. With his deal ending this year perhaps a trade to a high flying scoring playoff bound team will ignite the fire once again. It would be worth the gamble and cost a whole lot less than trying for a bigger name player (who is tied up with longer contract terms).

Phillips is a stud on defence. He could easily replace Mitchell in the next year or two. Yes, he is also an UFA and you guys - already with heavy contract tied up on defence - might not be able to re-sign him but again - isn't he worth the risk for a playoff drive. Especialy if all it would cost is Parse and Harrold. Hell, I think you could get both of those players out of Ottawa for picks alone.

Just a thought.

If there's no better options, I would be open to the idea of Kovalev. Although I think most people around here wouldn't be.

I swear Kopitar once said that Kovalev was his favorite player.

I doubt Dean would have any interest.

You know, I didn't even think about the Kopitar/Kovalev connection. Hmmmm. Interesting.

I'd likely do that deal, but that said I don't think we will be going out of our way to get a D-man, barring injury. Kovalev I think would be a fantasic addition for a playoff run actually. That said, he's not my preferred choice, but if DL picked up Kovalev at the trade deadline I would not be upset at all.

would do that trade as Harold is a waste of space and Phillips is as advertised.

We wont win the cup this year anyways but this trade would get us deeper in the playoffs and get our young guys more big game experience.

Both walk at the end of the year.

Our defence core between Mitchell and Greene have been plaugued injury wise so Phillips would look great.

or

We could trade both at the deadline as I am sure Montreal could find room for Kovy and most teams could use a guy like Phillips for their run and the investment back would be better then the purchase price of a bench riding Harrold and an injured Parse who will hopefully loose his job to a true top line LW next year.

It would largely depend on how Parse performs (if he still has a spot), when he comes back from injury. All indications are that he can be a productive player at this level when healthy.

But again, I don't see DL having any interest in a guy like Kovalev.

It's funny, I kind of forgot about Parse. I know Murray/Lombardi has a "you don't lose your spot to injury" policy, but where in the world does Parse even fit now that we have Sturm on LW?

That being said, Kovalev might work, but I don't know if I would want him in the locker room. That being said, we aren't really giving up much here, so I would probably do it. I will say though, I think Parse could be the next Moulson if he was let go. A guy who goes to another team and shines.

Easily done by the Kings, no questions or complaints. Kovalev was who I originally wanted for a stopgap over Sturm.

LOL omg, I wouldn't even take Kovalev for a freaking bag of pucks, the guy is the worst for the locker room, wouldn't fit in with our young guys. Every time I turn the radio on here, they're talking about how stupid of a signing Alex Kovalev was.

Pass.

Chris Phillips on the other hand, is an interesting idea, with Willie Mitchell being injured 99% of the time, we could use someone like Chris Phillips

I'd do it in a second. Kovalev is a playoff performer and can moonwalk.

That being said, I actually would do it. Very little to lose from it, Harrold has basically missed his shot as far as making the Kings D goes, but he's still rather serviceable. And Parse could be great but, I don't really see him fitting into LA longterm.

The kings have a geat core right now and have a window when they could win a championship. Would a deal of Hemsy and Penner for Schenn, Tuebert and simmonds work? or somethin close to this? I think with adding Hemsky AND Penner they could really set them selves up well, not only going into this years playoffs but next year as well as they are both signed for next year. And I do understand salary would have to be going back to Edm as well.

thoughts?

The Kings aren't going to trade Schenn. They have enough other pieces to acquire talent without having to give him up

I would think Phillips by himself could net a better return, unless the idea here is saving their ownership 2+ mil of whatever remains of Kovalev's deal.

If Kovalev wouldn't be detrimental to our locker room, yes. Philips isn't a bad idea...

I'd want Fisher on the team. "No cap on character" type of guy.

I'd like Spezza from the Senators....this team needs a Centre for the second line.

Smyth and Handzus are SLOOOOOOOW.

Senators get...
1st round pick
Moller
Voynov
Parse

Kings get...
Spezza
