Habs in the Top Defensive Defensemen article

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...rticle1867013/

Nice little article in the Globe and Mail about their take on the top defensive defensemen. Hamrlik and Spacek at number 2 and 3, and Georges and Gill at 14 and 24 respectively. Ryan O'Byrne comes in at 26.

Be interested in what other people think about their rankings and how they arrive at them.

Didn't know that Spaceturd is the 3rd best DEFENSIVE def.

If a player is paired with another player almost exclusively, it's difficult to separate them statistically, so you do see defence pairings make appearances on the list often.
Hamrlik drag the fat man with him.

Spacek has been very good this year. He was off in the first two or three weeks of the season, but has been fine since.

People are dumb.

I've always loved Spacek and Hamrlik. Unlike ''Experts'' on this message board.

They quickly forget what they did in the playoffs.

They also forget how it's more difficult to play well right off the bat at the beginning of the season for veterans in general.

Short term memory is a common disease around here.

Quite like how Gill had a tough night against the Rangers and some dumb posters are probably saying that we should trade him or something like that.

People will be quick to dismiss this list.

I really don't understand why it's hard for habs fan to credit Spacek and Hammer for their work.

Hamrlik is a beast, we'll miss him after this year. While spacek has been good with hamrlik, i wonder how he'd be without hamrlik by his side next year.

The article seems to suggest that our defense is better than many of the critics suggest. Improving on or even replacing some of these guys after free agency may be more difficult than we all realize.

Haha, I was just thinking the same thing.

Defensive defenseman sure are underappreciated.

Oh and if Gorges was healthy, we all know he'd be on that list as well.

Harmlik deserves that rating. Guy is a beast.

I like Spacek, quite a bit actually, but I'd definitely switch him with Gorges. Gorges is incredible.

I'd like to see a similar list for forwards.

I think Hammer deserves to be there and think he might be good enough to make it look like Spacek should too. I'm not a spacek fan at all and don't think he is an elite defensive dman.

I'm going to miss the Hammer, the idea the some like like Bieksa can properly replace him is a little silly. We need more speed in our D line but there's few defenders out there that bring a complete game the way Hamrlik does.

Spacek is quite underrated. When playing left, he's great.

He definitely looks better that he's in his natural position. The guy plays over ten seasons as a left D then all of a sudden they try to make him a RD
