Today the Angels had their first pre-season game. Pujols went 2 for 3, and Chris Iannetta hit a homer. Thank god Mathis is gone.

Pujols showing great work ethic...arriving first to the training complex etc.

Morales is running...though still not touching bases.

Imagine that? A hitting catcher. What a novel idea? Next thing we know Trumbo can field third base.

The Angels' nemesis, Texas Rangers, had their new ace throwing... and he looked good.

Jordan Walden, the Angels' own 10 blown saves reliever of 2011, has incorporated a new pitch... the change up. This could only help with his blistering fast ball, and much needed as to throw off batters. I like this tweak a lot. But not as much as the tweak of adding Pujols, Wilson, and Iannetta. (tongue in cheek)

Sure Darvish is going to be good. But he's only going to pitch 1 in 5 games.

I can't wait to see how the Angels do without worrying about what to do 2 games a week. I'm just so excited for the season to start. Of course, last time I was excited for a season to start, the Ducks took a crap.

I can't wait to see what the team's reaction is going to be if he hits another walk-off homer.

Talk about homers, did you see Trumbo launch recently? About 5oo feet, supposedly! And he did play third. Had a nice diving grab on a liner between the gap.

If both Trumbo and Morales work out well, it's buh bye Abreu.

Yeah, that was a bomb by Trumbo.

These next couple weeks can't go by fast enough.

You almost scared me. I got a Morales #19 jersey when changed to #8, so if his last name changed, my jersey would be completely wrong, instead of just half wrong.

Probably no one. We will have to eat most of his contract to unload him. Look at his stats and you'll realize at $8 mil he wasn't worth it. Actually, he wasn't worth it last year when the Angels had the chance to stop playing him in order to not tender him for this present season. Of course, this was before DiPoto became GM. Reagins' hands are still bringing this org down some.

On a good note, K-Mo has delivered in the bigs recently! YaY for the Plural guy!

So how do you pronounce his name now. Is it KEN-drees or KEN-dress?

Screw it, I'll just call him Bam Bam.

The Piece.

Abreu's case is difficult...he seems to be wanting playing time and if he doesn't get it probably starts to whine...better to keep him backup now but if and when Kendrys takes more at bats at DH...eat most of Bobby's contract and boot him.

Stars fan coming in peace!

What are your expectations for Wells this year?

Also interested in whether or not Callaspo's nailed down the 3B spot.

Thanks!

Wells has actually looked good in spring training. Not $21,000,000 good, but at least he's hitting well.

As for Callaspo, it looks like Trumbo going to be the regular 3rd baseman. Not to say Callaspo is bad, Trumbo's bat (and Morales' for that matter) is just more valuable.

At the start of the year, Wells is expected to protect the Machine by batting fifth. Then as the year progresses and K-Mo gets into a groove, Wells could be batting third. Here's my projection for Wells for this up coming 2012 season. I'm being quite conservative with the stat because his career averages are higher that what I've projected.

Year Runs Hits HRs RBI BA OBP ops
2011 60 110 25 66 .218 .248 .660
2012 76 156 28 80 .270 .320 .750

Callaspo has nailed down the 3B spot since last year. Trumbo still needs a lot of work at third. In fact, Trumbo is projected to split time between 3B, 1B, and DH. Once TRumbo shows more consistency at third, then expect Callaspo to be the ultimate utility infielder a la Mighty Maicer.

That far right number must be OPS, not slugging. Also, I can't see Wells hitting .270 when he is borderline useless against right handed pitching. A .250 BA and .290 OBP is probably what we're looking at. He needs to walk twice as much as usual for him to be a useful hitter.

Thanks for catching it. I got confused putting in numbers i thought i had the correct stat for. But I really see Wells improving. And those numbers are quite conservative. In 2010, he surpassed those numbers I have projected. Also, by not being the biggest contract, he doesn't have to think he has to swing for the fences. Wells often put that to his mind in many interviews. So he was pressing. He doesn't any longer with the addition of the Machine... also with Trumbo still in the line up and Morales' bat picking up.

In Ken-driss, bam-bam, k-mo's second MLB spring training game he hit a homer. Talk about a quick study! Wowzers!!!

OT- I was watching Back to the Future 2 today and Marty had just seen on the scoreboard that the Chicago Cubs just beat Miami for the world series when he went to the future. Okay, that was weird considering that Back to the Future 2 was made in 1989. As of today, that scenario from the movie can't occur because the Cubs and the Miami Marlins are in the same league (National). But wow!

In 1989, there were only 26 teams and only TWO DIVISIONS in each league (American and National). There were no Florida teams. Today, 2012, there are 30 teams and three divisions in each league; with two Florida teams. And one of those Florida teams is called the Miami Marlins. Before this season, the Miami Marlins were called the Florida Marlins.

But in Back to the Future part 2, Miami's mascot wasn't the Marlins they had an alligator.

Anyway, one more day!
