Do You Think Lebda Will Ever Improve?

Right now he's our worst defensemen, with Komiserek being 2nd our 2nd worst. He is constantly at fault for a goal or 2 against us every game. Do you guys think we should trade him? or send him to the AHL and give him another chance?

I remember when Schenn had a bad year and now he is our best young D man. Things could change for Lebda too.

Yes, we all know he sucks.

We have no idea about trades.

Maybe he will end up in the AHL.

Maybe he won't.

Maybe he will get better.

Maybe he won't.

We should send him to the ASHL (Adult Safe Hockey League) which is run at ice sports. He might be able to register a positive +/-

When the Red Wings organization gives up on a 28 year old for nothing in return, it's probably a good sign that the player is no more than AHL caliber.

Schenn's a former 5th overall pick that had the sophomore slump. Lebda's 28. Huge difference.

We can't trade Lebda without taking one god-awful contract back in return, so he won't be traded.

The way the Leafs blow money on bad defencemen, they're going to end up paying the Marlies defence more than the Leafs defence.

im not sure what burke was thinking when he signed lebda. for a supposed offensive defenseman, the last time he hit 20 points was in college.

schenn was a 19 year old having a sophmore slump and adjusting to the league, to pro hockey, to his body, etc, etc. lebda is 29 years old. he is as good as he is ever going to get. the fact that he is -19 is flat out astonishing.

kaberle -3
schenn-3
komi-4
gunnarson-1
beauch-3
phaneuf-4
________________
total+/- of entire maple leaf defense = (-) 18

total +/- of brett lebda = (-19)

there is no reason for him to play. there is no reason for him to play on the marlies. there is no reason for him to be part of the leafs organization in any capacity.

im usually against buyouts but if we buy him out in june according to capgeek it is a caphit of ~$500,000 x 2 years. imo its well worth it. its not even about the money, its about the roster spots.

despite what burke says regarding beauchemin, id say he is as good as gone. we need one less big time contract on the backend and need to resign kabs, schenn, and gunnarson. phaneuf and komi are immovable so....beauch is the odd man out.

next season

kabs schenn
phaneuf gunnarson
komi aulie

I don't like that lineup at all.

Phaneuf on the left is untested. At the same time, Gunnar on the right, probably a bad idea.

A third pairing with 2 players, who combine to have 0 hands.

Jesus, if that's what people think will be a "playoff team" I'm scared...

I think people need to think about life after Kaberle. Can't imagine he's going to re-sign here.

It would be a slap to kaberle's face if he's getting paid lower then dion pylon.

Yeah, doesn't seem like they've started negotiations, and they've only got 6 1/2 months to get it done...
