bye brunnstrom

http://starsblog.dallasnews.com/arch...-for-bela.html

still think he has great potential but I guess he didnt want to put in the work? The real upside of this deal is dallas doesnt have to pay for Stefanovich right now and clears brunnstroms salary.

decent offensive upside. a right shot right wing. I guess hes comparable to brunnstrom in that hes got tools but doesnt seem to be able to put them together. Not as a good of a skater as fabian though. As i mentioned, i think this is pretty much all about eliminating the expense of paying fabian nhl money to play in the ahl.

Pure goalscoring Russian winger, decent skater with a great shot. Questionable work ethic, failed to crack the Marlies and was loaned to a team in the KHL. Hopefully he turns it around, still very young.

good potential. possible bad attitude problems. he is playing on loan for Dynamo Minsk right now, but i would think the Stars would try to bring him over here and see what he has got in Cedar Park.

It is a deal that clears salary and, unfortunately, the best that could be had. I am surprised anyone ponied anything up for Brunnstrom. It is highly expected that if you put him on re-entry, that he would be claimed. I don't think Brunnstrom's problem is his effort level.

I'll tell you from my point of view as a leafs fan that Stefanovich is a skilled offensive player that has a very good upside. But sadly he is lazy and didn't get along with the coaching staff of the marlies(he complained about them to some media outlet). I believe he is currently in the KHL.

Eh, seeing Fabian play down here it was pretty easy to tell his work ethic and decision making is ****.

So odds on me seeing Stefanovich play here this season are zero?

Brunnstrom has gone from complete bust to potential all-star all in one day! Congrats kid!

Stefanovich has million dollar talent, a 10-cent brain, and a 1-cent heart.

He took off to the KHL as soon as he could.

it is a bit funny that dallas, a team that seems to be afraid of russians would be so desperate to get rid of brunnstroms salary that they would trade for a russian who right now looks like the stereotype of russians they fear most.

This team did have a distinct lack of Russians in the system. You always need at least one malcontent.

Leaf fan looking for a scouting report on Brunnstrom, haven't really seen him, being in the East. Big guy but he doesn't use his size?

He was drafted 2nd overall in the KHL two seasons ago (IIRC).

I'd be surprised to see him come back over for any extended period of time. He's playing for his hometown club Dynamo Minsk. He complained publicly about the AHL coaching staff also (IIRC) and had his issues with Patrick Roy in the QMJHL.

The year after he was drafted he was playing awesome, then the next season he came back down to earth.

My take on the deal is the Maple Leafs take some salary back and get a body (couple players injured at the moment both on the Maple Leafs and on the farm team). You guys get a prospect you don't have to pay for and may never have to pay (if he stays in the KHL).

Korostin's still in CP, isn't he?

That's the only Russian one I know, after Vish's departure.

Anyways, happy trails, Bonestorm. Hate to say it, but now I hope you never find your game, cuz it'll make Joe look bad.

What if Burke calls him up and he gets claimed on re-entry waivers?

No he is playing in Russia's second tier league I believe.

Completely agree, Stars just wanted Brunnstrom off the books. It would appear they are trying to creatively compensate for the extra salary taken on by Langenbrunner, first Segal now Brunnstrom, got to be getting pretty close to Langs cost.

He doesnt use his size and for some reason he seemed to loose speed and puck control between his rookie season and his 2nd. His rookie year he was an explosive physically gifted player who didn't play had trouble grasping the system. Since then he became a guy who couldnt control the puck to save his life and didnt have the gear to skate away from guys anymore. I really have no idea what caused it or if those attributes are still in him.

Korostin is in Russia playing in tier 2.

if he gets claimed then Toronto and the claiming team split his nominal 600K

Big but soft. Never met a physical battle he wouldn't lose. Work ethic has been questioned quietly but coaching staff has never publicly criticized him for it.

Great puck skills and decent speed but no hockey sense, particularly when it comes to using linemates for optimum offense. Tends to be a solo operator in the offensive zone, a black hole from whence no puck returns. The upside of that is he can score some gorgeous goals all by himself.

Defensive ability suffers from lack of physicality and hockey sense. Sometimes slow to get back to pick up his man because he's turned the puck over deep in the other zone and gotten frustrated instead of just hustling back. But his puck skills give him the ability to make a few nice strips.

Pathological fear of the minors when he came over (and this year). No idea why.
