Completely agree, Stars just wanted Brunnstrom off the books. It would appear they are trying to creatively compensate for the extra salary taken on by Langenbrunner, first Segal now Brunnstrom, got to be getting pretty close to Langs cost.
Sending Segal to the minors saved 420k and shipping out Brunnstrom saved 675k for a total of 1.095 million and Langs total cost coming over at mid-season was 1.4 million.

Mhmm he didn't want to play with the Marlies, his attitude is questionable, but he does have the tools to be a good player.

Sending Segal to the minors saved $420K in cap space but only $210K in real dollars because they've paid his salary for half the season. For the same reason, Brunnstrom's savings are $337Kish.

So they've saved about $550K with these moves, or about a third of what Langenbrunner cost them.

And I still think some of the money for Langenbrunner was money they had set aside for Lehtinen if he had chosen not to retire.

Yep you are right, I pro-rated Langenbrunner's cost but not Segal's and Brunnstrom's...lol

I know Lobo37.. Arshavin equals Hleb in many ways..

But good luck Fabian. It was a hell of a debut and Nashville never knew what hit them.

All I can do is shake my head at everyone involved in this sad saga.

He could've been great for us.

Useless deal. We'll never see Stefanovich over here and Brunnstrom still had some potential upside after AHL seasoning. Not really happy with this, but in the end it probably doens't matter. The chances of Brunns making our roster one day was slim to none. Still hate trading a maybe for a definitely not though.

Looks like the Langs trade came with some strings attached from the lenders.

You know he's got no value when even the Devils say "Thanks, but no."

"@andrewsdsp I hear they tried to include him in the Langenbrunner deal, but New Jersey decided to pass on it."

Brunnstrom would probably not have resigned here. to get anything is a big plus, IMO.

I felt Brunnstrom was starting to develop. Guess not eh? lol
Also do you think Stefanovich will have a future with us or was the trade just to dump salary?

There's a small chance Stef actually becomes an NHL regular. It's just the truth. I'm one of his biggest fans but the guy just doesn't care and he seems to think everyone's out to get him. What I mean is that when he was drafted he expected to be a Marlie. Not work his butt off to be in the AHL he just expected a spot to be handed to him. He was sent back to the Q and was an overager, never a good sign. He had a bad season then he came to camp and again expected a roster spot, this time on the Leafs. Never happened. This time Leafs management pretty much had to put him in the AHL so they did, he did nothing and had issues with Dallas Eakins the Marlies coach. Again, not a good sign. He was again demoted to the ECHL where again, he does nothing.

He then is sent to the KHL where he once again is doing nothing. It's troublesome to see a guy this old who clearly has attitude problems but he's got first round talent. If you saw him in the Q the year he was drafted you'd swear he was a first rounder but teams knew he was a risk so he fell all the way to the Leafs in the fourth round. Such a talent but such a waste. I don't think he'll ever grow up and "get it" unfortunately.

That's too bad. Optimist that I am, I'll hope that his less than stellar showing in the KHL thus far coupled with his past issues...maybe he will finally "get it."

You said it yourself, Brunnstrom wasn't viewed as a player who could help the cause by this coaching staff or GM. Given that, it looks more like what we did was trade a definitely not for a maybe. I don't know, I'm at least intrigued by the skills Stefanovich brings to the table.

Exactly. He wasn't coming back to Dallas this season. Dallas wouldn't have risked him on recall waivers and I don't think the Stars would have spent money to retain him this summer. At least Dallas got something.

The Stars save some money and pretty much give a prospect another five years to prove himself. Brunny has the size and skill to be a decent player but he is too soft. He may blossom someday but thats doubtful. He is just too soft, Larsen looks meaner on the ice than Brunny every has. He could become something but not the Stars' fault he couldnt make the team. I am pleased
