Rangers Draft Day Trades, take your best shot

I can see the Rangers at #6 staring at Montoya
The kings step up with a deal involving the #11 and a kid like Pushkarev for the #6.
Sather takes the bait and drops down hoping to add Thelen or Shremp at #11

I don't see the Rangers trading down from #6. Maybe a deal for the #2 pick gets done, maybe not. More likely, I see an additional #1 pick picked up, and the Rangers move up from #24 to mid to early teens. Lundmark WILL be gone. Poti MIGHT be gone.

I don't think many here would complain if Poti goes, but he is an experienced Dman and the rangers need a few of those if you consider that Tyutin and Pock will quite likely make the team next year. The hurdle on Poti is most likely his contract, but if Dolan et al swallow some of the cash I think Poti can easily be packaged.

I would hope the rangers move up from 24, but my instincts say that Sather drops down and gets the player he coveted anyway and picks up another asset.

I have a feeling that no trades will be made except trading one of our early 2nds for a later 2nd /early 3rd and a 4th.

How about trades I'd like to see go down?

Calgary gets:

Jamie Lundmark
#46 and #51 overall

Rangers get:

Denis Gauthier
#20 overall

-------------------------

Atlanta gets:

Tom Poti
#36 and #48 overall

Rangers get:
#10 overall

That would leave us with #6, #10, #20, #24 and #37 in the first two rounds...do-able?

I realistically see a 2nd leaving to pick up missing 3rd/4th and 7th area picks

Calgary trade we give up too little, Atlanta trade we give up too much. Poti is a proven young player in NHL, nevermind the shortcomings, he is one of the better offensive defensemen, #10 pick whoever he will be has nort proven anything yet. I Think Poti+37th should be enough to get us 10th overall.

NO.

I would do it ... but neither atlanta nor calgary would.

Gauthier is worth more than lundmark and the 46 and 51 aren't worth the 20th ... they're getting hosed.

Atlanta deal is better, but I doubt they do it.

Hmmm,

To Washington: Lundmark, Dawes, Prucha, #6, #46, and 2005 2nd round pick

To NYR: #1, 2005 3rd round pick, 2005 5th round pick and Brendan Witt

I'm embarrassed to have put such a bad trade together but with our management, who knows.

I can't see the Rangers getting the #1 or #2 pick without Tyutin being part of the package. Let's say the deal is Tyutin, #6 and #24 for the #1 overall.

Let's say that was the case. Would you trade Tyutin to get Ovechkin? To be honest I don't even think that's enough. I'm interested to hear what others have to say.

I agree, I don't think you'll have a deal unless Tyutin is part of the package. In fact, I think it would probably be more like Jessiman and Tyutin as well as the picks.

I think the asking price is going to be too high. I'd be more interested in grabbing another top 10-15 pick.

I have a feeling that we will leave our 6th pick as-is, but if the Kings come calling and offer their #11 plus next year's 1st rounder, we should take it. I think the Kings are going to suck out loud next year, and that pick may well be high in the lottery. I'm not saying they'll offer it, but apparently they're keen on the #6, so I ask.

Karl...

unlikely and unlikely. I don't know Lundmark's trade value, but I don't venture that it's high enough that he, along with two #2s, is enough to get a top Gauthier, let along Gauthier and a #1 pick.

As for the second pick...if rumors that Gomez + a late first gets the #3 pick, then Poti and a couple seconds does not get a top ten pick. Poti, the #1 and one of the #2s probably would do it, but I think I'd take my chances with Poti and who the Rangers get with the second #1, and possibly the #2.

I like your thinking, but I don't think other GMs would go for it.

I really can't see the Rangers trading up. If, at 6, Ladd and Barker are gone, I could see them trade down to get Stafford/Schremp.

One team that can be eliminated from the bidding is the Blue Jackets. Sources say GM Doug MacLean has been offering his No. 4 selection around and may already have a deal in place with the Rangers for a player and two picks.
Park #2, Edge, SOTI any truth to this rumor?????

I wouldn't rule out the first but you would be overpaying in the second instance. Stillman only cost TB a 2nd rounder last year. At that rate, a high 3rd might still be too much for Isbister.

I like this idea better...no reason to trade up unless to 1 or 2 overall because there is not a lot of difference between 3 and 15.....trading down a few slots would be better...of course, that is assuming Sather won't blow the pick anyway

Isbister sucks

I wouldn't mind getting Gomez, but I wonder how much it would cost us.

I think if Sather really likes Ladd, Olesz, Barker and maybe Tukonen then chances are he will try to get 3rd or 4th or 5th overall. He also might try to get 10th to get Stafford. 15th and 19th picks would likely cost us only 2 2nd rounders a piece.
