You totally would be defending Gustavsson this hard if he let in four goals, and not blaming him for the "poor" goaltending we've been getting this year.

[QUOTE=iArts;30200766]Read what RASHBEEP said. Exactly my thoughts.

No, the goals Gus has let in lately were poor positioning and just, well, sloppy. That is why he was in the pressbox tonight and a Marlies goalie who has by far out played him started.

you obviously didn't read that post then properly. i said EARLIER in the season, gustavsson would be playing great.. the goals he let in were, for the most part, defensive ****ups (no not pushups). and we would still be losing games because the offense forgot how to score. which btw both happened tonight. after he played games with the same crap over and over, he lost confidence/focus and then you are left with the goalie you have seen for the past month or so. in the game against the blues he struggled to make even the simplest of saves, and could barely cover up a puck. in other words, not himself.

please don't get me wrong i'm not saying reimer is a bad goalie, in fact he'll probably be a very great one. what i can't stand though, is how these fans treat these guys like a flavour of the week. they think gustavsson is some reject goalie who won't even be able to back up even the lowly leafs. they don't how understand that EVERY ATHLETE goes through this kind of crap.. and quite frankly it's sad.

Understood, and I get the "what have you done for me lately attitude". I guess I am just trying to ward off this type of criticism at Reimer as he played well and was burned cleanly. I am a bit worried about Gus, but I don't think it was the fans though. He seems confident and grounded, he has gotten a bit shook up this year but he should be fine.

Edmonton wins, Buffalo wins, Ottawa wins, Florida wins. And the leafs are back to going-nowhere status.

Jesus is Phaneuf's positioning and decisionmaking ever awful. Guy just does not have much upstairs.

Lebda always comes in and ruins the party, even tho he wasn't on for a minus, but the last time we were on 4 game winning streak, guess who was in the lineup when it ended.

If Steeg can't go Saturday, we need to call up Mueller/Irwin/Brunnstorm/d.mitchell/ or d'amigo anyone of those will do.

Yeah the game was winnable until everything went crazy at the end of the second. Brown's hit, the kick at MacArthur's head, etc. Can't get on Reimer since he kept them right in it and you'd be hard pressed to stop the ones that went in. Phoenix just got some nice goals.

One of the biggest things that bugged me about tonights game (as well as the Sharks game) is that we seem to be losing 75% of the battles along the boards. Not very truculant, IMO.

If we had to lose, this was as good of a way to lose as any. Shows the team that there's only so much any goalie can do for them. Reimer kept us in the game as long as he could, but we can't constantly put ourselves behind the 8 ball.

While it may be an excuse for the management to send Reimer down after this loss, I don't think they will. He'll probably get a game or two off, to see what kind of form Giggy's returning in, and he'll get at least one more chance to run with it.

6-2 in the last 8, 6-4 in the last 10, this loss is not the end of the world even for the playoff dreamers. Keeping streaks like this alive for the rest of the season can get us into the playoffs. Also, it could have been worse, we could have surrendered 2 points to a divisional opponent.

Also, at this point, I don't even care who they put on the ice, as long as it's not Lebda. Heck, make Brian Papineau lace up and send him out there.

To no one's surprise, I am incredibly anxious to see how Giguere performs Saturday.

I'd like to see Reimer kept up, but play Jiggy Saturday, Reimer next Wednesday, and it has to be Giguere against the Ducks on Thursday.
I'm a bit surprise Zeke is not throwing Reimer under the bus for tonights .800 sv% performance.

IMHO he was fine. A bit deep on one goal, and I do suspect the yotes scouted a weakness high to the glove on him, but I really like the style. He does show signs of becoming sort of a younger better puckhandling Giguere. Definitely a perfect guy to work with Allaire!
I also liked his calm, confident demeanor after getting a bit lit up. If he keeps that up people here will be upset that he isn't "passionate", but the reality is, that is how a goalie should be...showing calm, confidence, and unflappability to his team and the opposition, not anger and frustration

I think Phaneuf is feeling the pressure...he is such a good player...he needs to get out of this slump he is on.

Versteeg is obviously a huge part of this team...See the ****** PP tonight

The Leafs have a losing record when Lebda or Mitchell are in the lineup...N'uff said.

Reimer has been great but tonight he dropped the ball and he will probably end up back in the minors (unfortunately)

Calgary Flames on Sat hopefully we get back into the winning ways.

For the most part the effort was there... Ran into some penalty trouble and the game got away from them.

It's ok... Get Calgary tomorrow

We always get creamed by Phoenix. I know it's no excuse but the last time we played the Yotes they killed us 6-1 or something like that at the ACC...before that it was like 5-0 in Phoenix...

I hope we start Reimer against the Flames - a team we always loose too as well. The only difference is that the Flames actually suck. I say this from living out west for almost an entire decade and seeing that team play 6 to 8 times a year.

I expect these new Leafs to beat the old Flames. Please don't start Giggy against the Flames , so we have a chance to bounce back and run up the score. Kipper is struggling..he's letting in 4 goals a game right now.

Wow, so what? We lost. Guess what....? We will again one day. We will win a few also.

What bugs me is the total Bull...you know what...

After every loss, it is the same people saying the same things....Lebda sucks, Kessel was invisible and Phaneuf sucks. Ok, you are right about the Lebda part.

But Kessel was not invisible, not by a long shot. He may have gotten the puck more, if it wasnt for Freakin' wonder boy bozak tripping all over his feet. Kessel was in the right places without the puck, hardly his fault it didnt get to him. Oh, ok, I get it. Whenever Kessel doent have the puck "enough" he is invisible right? How about some of you people grow a hockey brain. Whenever he gets the puck, he is fun to watch.

As for Phaneuf, he made 2 glaring mistakes, and one cost us a goal. So what? 3 others were scored. I love MacArthur, so dont get me wrong, but if you want to blame anyone for this game, blame him. Stupid double minor to take at a crucial time. Also, we had no push back when the going got rough. We decided to become cheapshot artists. I also love Brownie, but he will get a suspension. Although, if you watch closely, Jovo was leaning down when the hit came. Do the math. Brown is short as crap, Jovo is tall as crap, yet Brown didnt leave his skates to hit that big head. If it is me, I say no suspension. Also, pay attention to where Brown is looking, he didnt go for Jovo's head, it just happened to be there.

Back to Phaneuf. He played well all night except those two plays. He made some really nice breakout passes, pinched at the right times, played well off the puck, hit, and stuck up for his teammates.

This was another case of not going to the net hard enough and not having a presence in front of the net....the things we did well on the 4 game win streak. They got away from what made them successfull for a week.

This city has a knack for driving good defenceman out of town, I sure hope Dion isn't next on the list...

I don't think Phaneuf played THAT bad.

He jumped into the rush a bunch of times and looked good doing so.

People need to accept a loss and quit pointing the finger.

I remember a game against the Flames from Wilson's first year as head coach where we won 8-6..and chased him out of the game with d level forwards...it can be done. We just need a goalie that won't let us down....

I know you and other posters on this board are not naive enough to think Reimer played terrific tonight. I have no doubt that if Gus was in net, there would be another explosion on this board, mostly people saying "a #1 MUST make some of those saves to win", or "He has no confidence, get him out!", or "He's back to his old habits!". Of course this is just conjecture, but I have no doubt it would be the case.

They looked tired in this one. Not surprised Reimer finally cracked, but he looked good for most of the game. Phoenix is boring, but I bet if the Leafs played like that they would have more wins this season.

Not surprised there was a bit of a letdown at the end of a very successful road trip.

Haven't read the thread but I'm guessing this was all Lebda's fault and Wilson needs to be fired?
