The other posters mentioning Havi were doing it not to add to this thread substantively, but simply to poke fun at me.

Objectively Havi's a great candidate to be an NHL coach (was back then, even more now), but it won't happen until the offseason, if at all. The OP was talking about a change right now.

I just think the sharks are playing like crap, and they have a pretty mediocre roster. Thornton, Marleau, and Heatley are NOT two-way players, but they are sucking this year because they have been forced to change their games on the fly.

The motivation is still way better than the RW days. Yes, even in a 6 game losing streak.

Mike Keenan is a big POS. He couldn't motivate a fly on the wall here in Calgary. Hire Keenan and the team goes further in the dumps. Oh how i would love Torts right about now!

How about a trade or two before firing the coach.

Please, no Keenan.

I saw Ken Hitchcock was mentioned. If he does become the coach, guys like Wallin and Huskins will continue to play over Braun. He hates playing his young players.

And foreshadowing. He's even more deserving and qualified to be an NHL head coach now and I think he'll get it sooner than the haters think, even if not the Sharks.

As much as I would like to see a coaching change, I just don't see it happening. I think DW would make a trade to see if that changes things before getting rid of McLellen. I do like the idea of getting a tough coach that doesn't deal with BS though because these guys need some serious motivation.

In Chicago, he is the pollyanna on the bench every time I see him. Always positive, always smiling.

Do people really want to see scorched earth and a blow up? It may have entertainment value but it sure as heck is not going to be a long term motivator. If you want revenge for poor performance as a fan that's fine too. But please don't say with certainty that it will make the team competitive. It is far more likely to blow up in SJ's face. Choosing this route, please don't come back with this and that trade that they need after the firebreather comes and goes and the team tanks. It will be a major rebuild. IMO, they still have a little room to tinker but there is not a lot of room for mistakes like Wallin and Huskins.

They also need some development done as they don't have the cap room not to use prospects and rookies. You don't necessarily need a pollyanna, but you will need someone who is evenhanded and is strategically sound.

I have already stated that DW will stick with the coaches until the end of the season short of some kind of malfeasance or other major issue.

Just for you, here's the list I have so far:
Haviland
Woods
Francis
Tippett

I wouldn't touch Hitchcock, Quinn, Keenan or anyone of that ilk who have failed more times than I can count recently.

Marleau has been a two-way forward for years now. And it's not like Thornton and Heatley were forced to play defensively this season, they had to last season as well.
You could say that they had to play more defensively this season and stay farther back due to the lack of a breakout pass, but saying they had to completely change their games on the fly this season is inaccurate.

Its too soon for a coaching change. First DW has to come out and give his "unconditional support for the coach." Then he can be fired.

If some one starts a rumor than TMac stole DW's tanning lotion, he might be fired.

I was going to post this.

We'll take Wilson.

You can have Murray.

He'll help your defense, but will have your team dumping the puck in every single play.
