The market seems to be more or less dead unless you take a contract back.

Yip+Wilson/Cumiskey/Hunwick+pick for a defensive upgrade is of course something Avs fans would hope for, but I doubt other GMs would be all that interested.

With Stewart and McLeod back now, Yip might be a healthy scratch again and his value will go down.

Ah, ***********, a lifetime of credibility because he tweeted the Lehtonen trade an hour before it happened.

So desperate for an insider around here.

Avs are probably looking for an upgrade on D in exchange for a Yip + Cumiskey/Hunwick/Wilson/Holos package, if I was guessing. They won't be adding a defenseman without sending one out. A couple ideas:

Cogliano for Yip
Beauch for Yip + Cumiskey

Well the guy look like a good fit with the habs, I don't know how the trade would be, but something could probably done with picks.

Facts: Brandon Yip is not an NHL calibre player if you watch him trying to play. The only good thing about his game is his shot which is great. He's just been lucky and has gotten a good number of points but he's a 3rd-4th liner or an AHLer, do not let the age and stats fool you.

Reality: With some work, the Avs GM can pull off a good trade involving Yip and get a 2nd rounder. However, the Avs DO NOT need a 2nd round pick as much as they need a solid defensive defenceman (Hunwick sucks, Quincey sucks and is injured, Foote is old and now sucks, Cumiskey will suck when he comes back). Consistent defence is what's eluded the team. I think they can get a defensive dman who can play on the bottom pairing or even a player similar to O'Byrne but with a bit more prestige before O'Byrne was traded. Someone suggested Carkner or Phillips for example. Yip is not worth a solid NHL dman but his value is the highest it's gonna get at the moment which is why the Avs need to be proactive and trade him. The problem is that Sherman has not pulled off a single trade this or last year where he "won" the deal when the trade was made. There were some moves like Wolski/Mueller/Porter or Hannan<->Fleischmann which are looking good now but it was clear that the Avs had not won or had lost the trade when it was made. So because of this, I'm not confident in Sherman's ability to be able to get a good dman back for Yip. But the Avs do have cap space and can afford a short-term salary dump for Yip. I know Vancouver might be looking to move a dman if Salo returns, it can't be Salo but one of the other ones might be intriguing especially if the Canucks need some depth on the wing in case of injuries.

McLeod and Yip for a 2nd.
Bad move because that is realistic but like I said, Yip's value is higher than that and McLeod and Galiardi and Stewart are needed to bring aggressiveness and toughness to the team. McLeod's play isn't great but we're soft when he's out of the lineup.

Is Yip really that bad? Everyone was pretty high on him last season, wasn't he a bit of a sparkplug?

I would love it if the Canucks could get him, and he is from Vancouver, but we have no cap space, and I doubt Colorado trades him to a divisional rival.
