As intriguing as a Hunwick+Lebda pairing will be, I'd rather it be on the Leafs than on the Avs.

I like Chain's idea of Morrisonn for Yip. Yip could take Grier's spot in the lineup next season if management feels Kassian needs a little time to develop in the A. Morrisonn gives the Avs a big, shot-blocking defenseman to go with their smaller, more mobile defenders. Morrisonn's contract ($2.075 through 2011-12) isn't prohibitive, either. And Buffalo has enough depth on the left side to absorb his loss.

I don't know much about Morrisonn. Can you say a bit about his skating, passing, and decision making?

He is a defense-first player who will typically stay back while his partner roams a bit more. He's not the fleetest but he's not particularly slow either -- he'll step up and catch guys and pin them out hard along the wall or hit them within 10' of the wall. He doesn't usually get caught fishing either, instead chooseing to play the man and separate his check from the puck. Offensively, he's pretty much a non-factor but he will jump up a bit more now than he did at the start of the season, perhaps even more so than he did when I watched him with Washington.

Would their GA average average out...or add up? Or worse yet, multiply?

Clearly it would be an exponential increase. That or they'd be so lost in the defensive zone that they confuse the opposition into clearing it out of the zone.

he's fine. people thought he's sustain his goal scoring pace from last year, but that was clearly not going to happen. he's an energetic guy with good size and great hands. he skates fast and hard but has a hilarious tendency to blow a tire at random moments. his hockey sense/vision is a little lacking. he will hit, but can forget to do that in favor of trying to be a skill guy. not a great defensive player. he does well in the corners.

he's a good 3rd/2nd line tweener with 2nd line potential. a 20/20 guy in his prime with a good center, I bet. Only reason he's available from the Avs is that we're drowning in wingers.

People saying a 2nd round pick or good prospect for Yip are nuts.

He can't skate, can't handle the puck, isn't very physical, and isn't that great defensively.

He has a pretty good shot and is decent around the net. That's pretty much it.

A late 3rd round pick or a 4th round pick is probably good value.

why did the youngest team in the league trade one of their only veterans, who is a prototype defensive defenseman, for another average forward? I know the trade happened a while ago but I never really thought about it until now. Doesn't make sense.

Flash has been much better than average. Hes been nearly a PPG player and has clicked with Duchene and Hejduk. If it wasn't for the offense they are providing, we'd be dead in the water right now. Hannan was simply the high price we had to pay for a player we were after. The hunwick trade, now that just sucks, cause I'm not sure if Cohen would be struggling as much.

Injuries to Stewart, Mueller, Hejduk and Galiardi. Avs were very thin on wingers for a while and decided to get Fleischmann. Now that everyone is back we have a surplus of wingers. It's no big deal. Worst case scenario Yip will be a healthy scratch for a while until someone get injured if no trade is to be found.

Not interested in dealing the 2nd rounder.

Sounds a bit like Ryan O'Byrne. The Avs could really use another O'Byrne. Can Morrison play well on the PK? The Avs PK is the worst in the league thanks to the worst PKing dmen in the league.

Yip by himself won't have much value. Second rounder is out of the question. A third or forth would be more realistic. I wouldn't mind a defensive defenseman of similar age and potential. Otherwise package him for a better return.

I hope the Lightning or Oilers pick him up, he'd look good with either team.

But I hope its Yip for a vet and late pick this year

Edmonton for Strudwick and 4th
TBL for Pouliot and 5th

They should have tried to deal him in the summer when his value was as high as it was ever going to be. Now the illusion is gone along with any value coming back.

In my completely uneducated opinion, he'll be packaged with Galiardi.

-23 scouts at the Col-Chi game
-next day, Galiardi arrives late to a road practice
-next day, healthy scratch along with Yip.

hmmmm.
