I think the distinction that you should be making here is that his shot is not being used, rather than he does not have a good one. I would chalk some of this up to coaching and that the coaching staff needs to do a better of utilizing the skills of the players that they have on their team. The other half of this is that Kotalik goes thru long stretches where he is largely ineffective. I will give the coaches credit for putting Kotalik on the point, I like that move by the Flames because it adds another element to their PP and at the same time it gets Kotalik more involved in the game.
