Interesting responses to say the least. Iginla is the better player for sure, but that's not what this is about.
What cap strapped cup contending team could realistically make a serious move for Iginla? not too many if any at all. He would be preferred, but it'd be much easier to acquire and make room for Hemsky.
One player is making, at this point, $175,000/point playing every game. The other is making $141,379.31/point while missing 13 games.
For their projected totals through the year, Iginla is projected to make $95,890.41/point. Hemsky $63,076.92/point. Which one gives you more bang for your buck? In the cap era, is it better to have the guy that costs less per point? Is Iginla's intangibles worth the extra $3mil/year in the cap era? Who is more likely to decline over the rest of their contract? The 33 year old that plays a style harder on his body, or the 27 year old hitting his prime? It's a lot closer than people should think.
If I am a contender with a 5 year window (example, Canucks) I take Iginla no question. The intangibles he brings (on top of his performance) to the playoffs would be GREAT for a push.
If I'm an in-between team that's starting to build up (LA) or a rebuilding team (FLA) I'd take Hemsky, cause he's significantly younger and will be able to have his prime years with the club.

the extra intangibles, the extra goal scoring and the fact Iginla stays healthy is well worth $3 million

The Iginla you would want in the playoffs isn't the one who showed up their last playoff appearance a few seasons back but the one that showed up prior to the lock out. If he showed up, intangibles worth those bucks. If that Iginla is part of the past, not worth it necessarily.
