BB: 'We're trying very hard, but we don't seem to be getting anywhere in their zone.'

Well that was not a very reassuring interview by BB. He looked about as clueless as I thought he was.

Their half *** play to start this game once again cannot be blamed on BB's IMO. The players need to want it and its clear for some reason the majority of Caps players do not. Thats on the leaders in the locker room and no one else.

I don't think anyone will ever know that with all the secrecy surrounding this team when it comes to personnel and changes.

My guess is injuries and outright refusal to bench or take away playing time from players who flat out can't produce.

If the coach isn't THE leader of the locker room, what's the point of even having one?

I think it was obvious when they tuned out Hanlon. Made even more obvious when BB came in and turned 'em loose.

I am not alone in thinking something is very wrong with this team but nobody from the organization will make it official. Injuries. Personality conflicts? who knows but the on ice product has suffered greatly. I will admit part of the issue is we got spoiled with how easy it was last year.

It`s not so much blaming BB as it is blaming the players, but if they`re tuning him out then it`s a problem and it`s usually a problem that is only resolved one way.

Have you played much team sports? Based on my experience all the coaches I had did their work on the practice field and behind the bench. The only time they spent in the locker room was prior to the game, at half time, and immediately after the game. The locker room is the players personal space and should be led by the captain and senior players. Those leaders keep the rest of the team motivated and should be depended on to keep moral up. The Caps seem to be lacking in this department based on their inability to start games on positive footing.

BB's job is to get the players prepared to play and to make in-game decisions as needed, but it is the players responsibility to be ready to play on a physical and emotional level night and night out. HC speeches like the Al Pacino "We fight for that inch" crap is only suited for the playoffs.

He may not be scoring but Backstrom`s control of the puck is just unreal.

Even BB said they played hard. The "hard" amd "wanting it" arguments hold no water. The are not playing well.

i gotta ask. is it really your idea of fun to come to these boards during a game and spew doom or one sort or another at any turn possible and say next to nothing ever when good things happen?

is good that boring and bad that much fun?

Well opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one, and based on what I saw at the the beginning of this game is that the players were not giving the same effort as their opponent.

From what I've seen all year only Matt Hendricks puts forth consistent effort every game. Just wish there were more of him to go around on the Caps.

working smarter > working harder.

working smarter + working harder = best recipe for success. this team has not fused those 2 factors together much, if at all, this season. sadly the team seems to be working harder these last few weeks not smartly... thats planning, preparation, in game adjustments - in short: thats coaching.

btw - Mojo's move to the inside was pretty sick - it is a joy to watch that kid use his speed & quickness.

Have never sensed a familiar flow to a game where you could sense what would happen nex. Not saying we will lose, but i have a feeling Ottawa gets the next one.

That and he is throwing his weight around more it seems this year. He seems to be taking his offensive frustrations out on the other team.
