**** no. Kreider is much more important to the Rangers organization than an ellis would be. He will only be traded if we get back a legitimate top-end puck mover or a top-end forward.

Krieder isn't being traded for someone on Nashville not named Suter Weber or Hornqvist.

While I personally wouldn't want to trade Ellis, I think this is a fair trade.

Value, maybe, but the Rangers have tons of defensive prospects and a young NHL blueline already and are lacking in offensive production/top flight prospects. Kreider is the best one and we're gonna need him to become something for us. He only get dealt in a package for a gamebreaker. If we acquire defense this season it will be a veteran rental.

This. Doesn't make any sense for the Rangers.

i am sure both sides of this think it sucks for them, but i don't know what makes kreider a more valuable asset than ellis. puck moving defenseman who can run a power play seem to be more in demand than a top six forward.

No thank you. Kreider is our top offensive prospect.

A team starving for offense just isn't going to trade away it's best prospect of that aspect.

Makes NO sense for the Rangers.

I'm hoping you think you're going to have to add a ton to Kreider to pry one of those two guys away from Nashville.

Obviously he would be a part of a package, but that's the point.

more rangers fans on this site than preds fans, obviously thats the only reason why.

by some of the responses, you'd think the OP offered Ryan Ellis for Wayne Gretzky.

It's not that at all.

It's more that Ellis while a fine prospect in his own right is not what the Rangers need.

Kreider OTOH fills a need for the Rangers and trading him now doesn't make any sense at all.

Is the value there? Absolutely, is the NEED there on the Rangers side of the ledger? Not at all

I have every confidence that Del Zotto can be that puck moving PP QB you are referring to.

So, while you make a fair statement, when you already have a PMD PP QB, there's no need to shed your top prospect for yet another one.

I'd rather just keep Ellis and the pick.

I don't know why Nashville would be in a rush to trade Ellis, who has always been a home-run or bust type player; for Kreider (a decent, but not superstar) type player.

It would be a fair trade straight up, but neither side would do it. Ellis is Nashvilles best defensive prospect and nearly made the team this year.

I wouldn't call him a superstar either, but the kid's going to be a legitimate impact player at the NHL level if he pans out.

The kid has homerun potential. Maybe not a superstar elite player one day, but a star player? 30-30-60 kind of guy?

I don't know though, not many players are blessed with his size and speed, it's blinding at times.

Krieder would cost one of Suter or Weber other than that we will hang up the phone

Let's re-phrase this...

The only way the Rangers deal Kreider to Nashville is as part of a package for Weber or Suter.

I don't think he has homerun potential.

Even if he develops into a 30-30 guy, that's a Huselius type player. Sure it's valuable (especially on an ELC), but is it warranted for a player like Ellis who was picked on the hope he becomes the #1D (and has 2 Memorial Cups to his Credit?)

I just don't think so. I mean, I feel like Kreider is a lot safer of a pick, but Nashville chose to swing for the fence with Ellis, even when they had other needs and depth on the blue line.

I think you're way underrating Kreider and way overhyping Ellis.

It could be that I've seen A LOT more of Kreider than you have, and you've seen A LOT more of Ellis than I have, but I'd like to think that I've seen Ellis enough to make a rational judgement on his performance.

Kreider just might be the safer pick, but I think there is a chance that Kreider becomes a 35-40 goal scorer at the NHL level one day.

i can't see why the Rangers would do this unless they have internally soured on Kreider, like a contract dispute or something of the ilk. At which point, I'm thinking we could get a better deal elsewhere.
