I'd love to see him in a 6th man role. See what he's got.

I've got huge hopes for Tanev, he once played a whole season only getting one penalty.

Makes sense, better defensively then K-con. and we aren't missing any puck moving guys on the back end.

If somebody like ehrhoff or edler goes down, I can see them bringing up k-con.

Good call up.

He's not playing tonight.

Murph: "Tanev is with the team now, but won't play tonight."

I like that when people see this they automatically think... "Oh too soft, would like to see at least 14PIM"

Good, he's earned it. And you'd think if they just wanted insurance to sit in the pressbox, Baumer would've gotten the call, so we should get to see him play.

He had so few because in college he was about 5'9 and was stuck at around 150lbs so he needed to be extremely smart positionally in order to avoid getting steamrolled constantly....

...and three years later he's 6'2, 190lbs and still has the same smarts positionally that he needed to learn when he was 18 and playing in school.

Gotta think he'd look better in a fill in role than Oberg did last year.

Good news.. i'd like to see what he can do.

But if we're calling up players for rewarding good play in the minors... Shirokov should get a look as well. He's playing great lately.

Baumer can get claimed on re-entry and we'd be stuck with $275,000 on the salary cap all year

I'm assuming he is up as injury insurance. Reward for his strong play, get to practice with the team and soak up the experience of being a winner. Surprised that they didn't call up a vet like Baumgartner, but happy about it as well(Baumer sucks.)

Would be interesting to see him get into a game somewhere, but I doubt it happens--at least not anytime soon.

Saw Tanev play in Abbotsford two weeks ago. Very solid and poised for first-year pro. Clearly the most mature of Canucks young D prospects.

Are they planning on him playing 4th line center? Or to replace Rome's position in the line-up as "AV's favourite"?

Snepsts could come out of retirement and look better than that.

Poor Oberg. Wasn't he the only healthy defensemen we had under contract when the Canucks called him up? I seem to recall the Moose' blueline being hampered with injuries last season.

Actually he was 5' and 120 pounds and quit playing elite hockey for a couple of years. Then he suddenly sprouted and now is 6'2" 185.

I think the callup came before the situation where both teams had a bunch of D hurt - I remember Willie babysitting him his last few shifts because he was so bad, so it was definitely before the concussion.

He was 5' 120 when he was 15 then he quit and went to college on a hockey scholarship, I was talking about when he was playing when he was 18.

Tanev has been earning himself a spot. If he can show that he is even close this will have real bearing on situation on defense going into next year. If you can see Tanev being effective enough in the 5 or 6 spot then it creates potential cap room and opens up alternatives in terms of who the Canucks can trade and who can be re-signed.

I guess Rome is on IR

Very positive thing here is that the Canucks have been able to get some NHL time for both Volpatti and Tanev. This is a good selling point for trying to sign unsigned or undrafted NCAA players.

That NHL salary, even if briefly, is a pretty nice reward as well. It probably serves as good "carrot" for the guys in Manitoba, seeing we'll call guys up even when we don't really need them.

Maybe he'll get a start in the next back to back, keep Alberts in his normal routine or whatever.
EDIT: No more back to backs this month so maybe not.
