Buffalo does not do this. I think Ennis is a much safer bet to succeed than Filatov is.

Montador and Ennis is a lot better than Filatov and a 3rd.

From Buffalo's perspective:

Montador is worth a 2nd, not a 3rd.

Ennis has outperformed Filatov by every measure, save draft position.

Pass.

Weird trade.. Two teams swap major young prospects and the other just gets some Vet D-man. I don't get it.

I also don't see Buffalo trading Ennis.

You've summed it up very well.

Ennis, though he's shaping up to be a pretty good player, is not what we need right now (we've got two or three guys much like him developing right now, one of which - Calvert - was recently called up). We need quality defense, which means "not of the Other Alex Picard variety."

Thanks, but no thanks.

(Also, Buffalo fans ought to set you on fire for even suggesting this idea. )

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Not even close. I was not impressed with Filatov at all the last time I saw him. He's like a slower Afinogenov with even less awareness of what's going on around him.

As pretty much everyone has said, Sabres get ripped off, Columbus gets wins big time.

From Buffalo's perspective, Montador is worth a 2nd round pick and Ennis has more value to the team than Filatov. Buffalo really shies away from flight risks and I think Filatov is one if he continues to struggle in the NHL.

Buffalo has no reason to do this.
