Forward to Help Your Team - Iginla or Hemsky?

It is the trade deadline and both Alberta (assume) teams have decided to shed these players because they have offers that are simply too good to refuse. Your team is the one making the offer.

Which player are you keener to get and why? This is not a trade proposal and nothing is implied about what would be going the other way. Just look at your team's situation (e.g. LA, seemingly in need of veteran forward who can score) and make a case why you want your GM to have pursued and acquired one or the other.

I personally think Iginla is a lock HOF and one of the best power forwards of the last decade and a bit but I am intrigued to see what Hemsky could do in the right situation. Guess I am saying, depending on the team, I can see both being a good fit.

For the Canucks, I would rather have Iginla.

Iginla. I don't think he would fit with the Wild though...

Iggy. Could use a winger who fights hard and can rack up the goals. Hemsky doesn't suit Montreal's needs as much.

probably Iginla to play with Spezza, but Hemsky has more mileage left

Iginla because he's the better player.

Any team in win now mode would want Iginla. That includes the Bruins.

Teams making this move are generally ones hoping to make a splash in the playoffs. So, under such a scenario, clearly Iginla is the superior player. He hits, he fights, he is imo one of the best leaders in the Nhl. Oh yeah, and hes not too shabby at putting up the points either. Simply put, he is tough to play against. That is more my style come playoff time.

Iginla. Simple choice. Especially if you just need him for the playoff run and not for a few more years.

"Jarome Arthur-Leigh Adekunle Tig Junior Elvis Iginla"

Courtesy of Wikipedia haha.

Hemsky's a really hard player to play with because of his unpredictability. But he's still underrated IMO. Especially his defensive game.

Iggy for sure, he has more elements to his game and provides a lot of leadership.

Iginla. He's missed 12 games in the last 9 years.

Hemsky hasn't played a full season in his career, and hasn't come close in 5 years.

Iginla, 'and it's not even close'

I like Hemsky, but he isn't even on Iggy's level.

Iginla has always been better.

Taking cap hit into account, Hemsky.

Edmonton should keep Hemsky IMO, you can not ditch too much older talent while rebuilding or you will be rebuilding forever. when there current prospects get a little older Hemsky still will not be too old. Like really he is only 27.

I'd prefer Iginla. No injury risks and he'd look great on either the Sedin line of with Kesler. Neither the Flames or Oilers would want to help us out though.

I'd offer up something like Raymond, Schroeder, 1st for either of them. I doubt that'd be enough.

The Oilers wouldn't trade Hemsky for Iginla, but playoff teams take Iginla, no question.

I think i might go with Iginla.

I think it's also a lot closer than some people will have you believe though. I really like Hemsky, and Kessel could certainly use a player like him to play with, but the Leafs also need a player like Iggy.

Every team is looking for something different. Not all former captains that have ruled the roost for a decade or so in one city are automatic hits in another city let alone make the incoming team an immediate success.

I could see Hemsky being a better fit in a number of different situations. I would have to think long and hard about it in, for example, Nashville where some top end speed with the hands of Hemsky may fit the team better. Moreover, after this season you have to think about the cap hit and the future of that player on your team.

I don't agree at all it is a slam dunk. That is why it is interesting to see what people think from their own perspective of what their own teams could use.

Hemsky is too injury-prone (because he does dumb things on the ice and makes himself vulnerable) and floats/gives up too often.

Iginla will do anything asked of him.

Hemsky, I wouldn't think twice about it. He's played much better than Iginla the last few games.

Iginla is a proven leader and winner. He is exactly what the Bruins need.

Iggy, and it's not even close.
