The San Jose Sharks have added some grit to their forward corps.

The club acquired winger Ben Eager from the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday for a fifth round pick in the NHL Entry Draft.

In 34 games played this season, Eager has three goals and seven assists with 77 penalty minutes.

His cap hit is only $965K. That makes it harder to land a defenceman, but still not impossible. Hard not to like this trade.

EDIT: Does this mean Jamie McGiin is being traded?

I'm happy with this move but I hope DW still goes after a D-man. Without a new D-man, this move will only slightly alleviate some of our problems.

For those expecting Konopka because he played for the 67's, you aim too low. DW settles for nothing less than a person BORN in Ottawa; not merely someone who played for an Ottawa team.

yup, its gonna be yet another usual trade deadline year for the sharks.

That's all folks, you can stop looking at the wires. DW made his Ultimate move for the season!

Darren Dreger said on NHL on the fly that Doug Wilson was waiting to hear who the best dman available was, and that was who he was going to target.

This better not be all he does.

Would have much rather preferred Konopka. I guess it adds more depth to the system at least.

I doubt this means anything besides stopping the pleading phone calls from Roy because he can't ice a team.

Basically we can send Desjardin back down now, Mashinter as soon as one of Mitchell/Clowe is healthy, and probably Braun in short order as well.

Eager is as big a penalty machine as Stabuitz was, so hope our PK continues to improve!

I don't know if it is going to be harder to get a dman considering to make cap space room, some of the AHL'ers on this team will be sent down.

I like the move as long as Eager doesn't take too many penalties. I want him to draw penalties (do things when refs aren't looking and draw retaliation penalties), not take them.

Still need at least one dman though...

I guess we'll see how this turns out in the long run, but I like the fact that the Sharks are doing something. Everyone has been calling for a D-man, and while that is the major need, they have also shown that sprucing up the Forward corps. is also a need and it looks like they've done that. Hopefully it turns out to be a good thing.

Glad we didn't throw away any roster players at him. Pretty much a depth trade that we desperately needed. I don't love it, but don't hate it either.

At least when Clowe is healthy we can let Eager fight instead of Clowe. I hate other teams trying to get Clowe into fights so they can get him off the ice for 5 minutes.

So lines?

Heatley - Thornton - Couture
Clowe - Marleau - Seto
Eager - Pavelski - Mitchell
Mcginn - Nichol - Mayers

Dang it, looks like someone tricked DW into thinking Eager was a D-man to go for. He probably thinks he's done his job after an epic move w/o realizing Eager is a forward.

Looks nice and deep. As long as you don't look at the defense

I figured this meant Torrey was going to be out longer than expected.

Hey, the Thrashers turned Byfuglien into a d-man so since Eager was with Chicago, DW thinks that all former Chicago forwards can be d-men

The Thrashers fans on here are very happy to be rid of Eager.
