Let Hammer go, trade Spacek for a pick. Not that I dislike those two, I just really really really want Gill back!

Markov
Wiz
Gorges
Subban
Gill
Weber
Big Defensive-defencemen(UFA)

Brendan Nash is an up and comer. He could be our 6th next year.

This is definitely good news. Young blueliner just coming into his prime and we got him for next to nothing...

God it would be refreshing to see the following 3 players in our top 6 D:

Markov
Wisniewski
Subban

Round that out with:

Gorges
Gill (assuming he's re-signed, preferably to a 1 or 2 year extension)
Spacek (not a fan, but I imagine he'll play the final year of his contract here)

Weber as 7th?

I like the looks of that to be honest.

I like what I've seen from Weber this year. He's getting better as the season progresses. I want him in top 6 next season. Since I'm also a big Gill fan, I would sacrifice Wiz and have the following top 6 next year: Markov, Subban, Weber, Spacek, Gill, Gorges. I realize that Markov's situation is unclear, but if he's gone, I do not see Wiz as an equivalent replacement. I would try to land Ehrhoff or Kaberle instead.

You would take Weber ahead of Wiz? Are you mad? Did you see Weber play the last couple of games? He's been god awful in pretty much every aspect of the game. He has poor defense, weak along the boards, he's been crappy in PP. I never really liked the guy, and have been saying he won't be a good NHLer. I'm sticking by it, I would deal him for another young prospect from a team of needs PMDs.

I like Weber as well and I think he can be a solid NHL defensman as time goes by but I think he might end up being used as trade bait soon. If we can sign Wiz then add PK to the top 4 and if we sign Markov to a 1 or 2 year deal which I think is likely then there may not be room for Weber. We can only use so many RH offensive defensmen and Weber may not make the cut as he's lower than PK and Wiz on the depthchart and he's not going to take Gorges spot which leaves him as the odd man out imo.

You do realize that our power play has sucked all year until the Wiz showed up.

Weber is at best a 7th defenseman right now, he might get better, but I wouldn't want him playing against the Flyers in the playoffs, Hartnell would own him.

Ideally I would want to keep all of Markov, Wiz, Hammer and Gill. Trade Spacek, Weber as the 7th.

I think our line up would be better with Wiz in it..

Markov/Gorges
Hamrlik(Emelin) / Wiz
Gill / Subban
Weber

You don't say??!!

Back to the thread, i think i would let Gill walk and resign Hammer instead for a 3rd line pairing role with Subban, much better skater and all-around D. Something like

Markov-UFA/ Gorges/ Weber
Spacek/ Gorges/ UFA-Wiz
Hammer-Subban

That would be one SICK defensive squad!

I'll decide at the end of the season. He has been good but i need to see him in the playoffs.

If all goes well, i think 3.5 - 4.0 cap hit for 3 - 5 yrs is reasonable.

To everyone that wants Hamrlik back, I'm hoping you do so at a significant pay cut.

He'll be 37/38 next season, and although he has been solid, he is clearly not worth what he makes, IMO.

So, IF he's back, I seriously hope it's a 1 year deal at 2 or 2.5 million.

1 year 3-4 million is the going price for a player of his caliber.

For 3M, it's a maybe. FOR 4M, it's definately not wise to resign him.

Who on HF do you think wants him back next season at $5m?

I'll tell you who, nobody does, so for you to point out that he needs a significant pay cut is kinda like saying the sun is going to rise tomorrow.

Thanks for pointing that out to us Sherlock.

1. Hopefully we can sign Wiz!
2. We need Gill back. Good defensive dman, poised, has made Subban way better (lots of credit to PK too obviously) and is an awesome leader.
3. We need Gorges to be healthy, do not rush him under any circumstance.
4. Markov needs to be resigned for one season at 4-5 million until he can prove he can stay healthy.

Markov-Gorges *
Subban-Gill
Wiz-Webber/Spacek(whichever one is deemed more effective.)

*I don't like the idea of Markov, coming off an injury, being placed with Wiz. As much as I love James, he isn't that great defensively. I'd rather him be with Gorges to start)

Also, I love Hammer and he is actually one of my favorite Habs, but I can't see us keeping him beyond next year unless we get rid of Spacek (another guy I like). Besides, can Webber step in and be better than the two veterans? I doubt it for a full season, but he seems to have the ability.

Exactly what I had in mind Except Weber because we dealt him to Calgary for Regher (no, not just Weber, I'm not that dumb!).

Regher is exactly what we are missing. Big tough guy that hits and block shots to go with Subban.

Found this this morning, saying we have a 37.4 success rate on the PP in the last 35 games. While the Wiz helped, we werent all that bad before either (30.7 since he's arrived).

http://habsinsideout.com/boone/43962

"... the power over the last 11 games has gone a whopping 12-for-39, a 30.7 per cent success rate. After starting the year on a 3-for-47 run in the first 14 games, the Canadiens have climbed to a tie for eighth in the NHL on the power play by going 46-for-123 over the past 35 games, a whopping 37.4 per cent efficiency rate."
