Don't forget the 10 picks they used last year, 4 of them second rounders. I've been beating this drum the whole summer, when people talked about Chicago as if armageddon was about to happen.

MOST "top level talent" that the Kings have traded have excelled elsewhere, and have helped take their new team "to the next level." Whatever the hell that means.

No, Kopitar and Brown need stay here and learn how to win to make the Kings an attractive team for UFAs to come here. (I know, I can dream - that's all that's really left).

Until some home-grown talent really excels here, NOTHING will ever change.
Context bro.. context. I'm not advocating trading either of them for a bag of garbage. I wouldn't be bummed one bit if Dustin Brown was traded for something that improves the team. He is proving his worth as a Captain right now. He is going down with the sinking ship but now he says "****" in interviews so I guess that is a step in the right direction. I like Dustin as a player but I'm on the "he was a poor choice for a captain" bandwagon at this point. I think it might be a good idea to get a guy who wants to be a leader as the Captain and by that I don't mean building playgrounds for orphans and kids who can't read good.

Kopitar on the other hand, I would be disappointed to see go. I would hope somebody of a similar skillset is coming back.

Some thought teams like the Flyers, Bruins, Hawks, ect. who were up against the salary cap were going to have to have a fire sale and basically have to give players to teams like the Kings who were substantially under the cap. It did not exactly play out that way. Hawks lost a lot of their depth but were able to keep their nucleus together and pick up some decent draft picks along the way.

We will have the answer over the next several years. It's my opinion. They definitely lost a layer of depth that will not be easily replaced and they aren't exactly setting the NHL on fire this season.

I think the Lombardi way is better and have said so numerous times.

If the Hawks had lost in the finals they would have been burning Tallon in effigy in Chicago, instead of mailing him a ring. Leighton sucks harder than Niemi and Chicago wins.

The Kings and Blackhawks have been on different paths. Their "ways" are different. We are in the process of locking up our guys.

Lombardi's played the cards he was dealt in terms of what was in the prospect pool, players on the team, and picks he had. Well played, I say. He got Doughty. He got Schenn. Our talent pool is second to none.
And our team talent level is very very good.

Teams look at our roster and want our players. They do not want to provide the magical missing piece "the elite sniper / game breaker" only to have to face the Kings for the next 5 - 7 years. I believe, if we were at this level of development a few years ago, that a Hossa or Gaborik would have signed here. But we were where we were and it didn't happen. You can't force players into your uniform.

We didn't get Toews and Kane within three draft years and have them both pan out as elite players. But we don't have complete busts either. Lombardi got us different players. I believe the players DL has brought into the franchise will be as good and build as good a team and franchise as Chicago or Detroit.

Not fast enough for some. Real enough for me.
