I know this won't happen, but what would you say about (in the Offseason)

Seabrook
Bolland

Staal
Orpik

maybe some side has to add, but I just want to know how far I'm away in terms of value

We lose leadership, defense, and potetial signed long term... HMMMMM No Thanks. Trade makes no sense for Pittsburgh. Add Sharp or Kane to keep this from being laughable.

Seabrook is a RFA after this season.

Even if he wasn't, the Penguins still say no as already explained by the poster in post #2.

Yeah this is ridiculous.

If you have to say "I know this won't happen"...maybe it isn't worth saying out loud to begin with.

Wrong again... The Pens are win now mode and prospects or picks don't make this trade any better. Kane or Sharp would be added and even then Shero would say no thank you. Bad proposal not getting any better. Do you guys think the Pens are rebuilding? Have you seen the standings?

Makes no sense for the Pens, makes some sense for the Hawks if they don't want to pony up the big bucks to pay Seabrook.

There's really no reason for Pittsburgh to even think about this as it doesn't address any needs. It would be a lateral move at best while trading away two integral parts of the locker room. Not that the value is completely terrible, but Chicago would certainly need to add. Again though, at best Chicago adding would make this a fair "value" trade. But what's the point?

Are you saying

Seabrook + Kane/Sharp + Bolland

for

Staal + Orpik?

No I'm saying that trading for prospects make no sense for the Pens. Keep Bolland add one of those two wingers beside Seabrook so everyone doesn't laugh at the proposal. I still wouldn't make the deal because Staal and Orpik are signed long term.

Wouldn't give this up for Crosby, probably for 66 or 99 in their primes though, value is about right for that.

i dont think either team would do it..

Value is bad for Pittsburgh even before you consider contracts.

Then you consider you are trading an RFA and player with three years left on his contract for two players with 5 years left.

Chicago needs to add. You would probably have to swap Seabrook with Keith for Pitt to consider it.

LOL. 66 or 99 in their primes would cost a whole hell of a lot more than that.

Staal is a lot better than Bolland, and Orpik brings cost certainty that Seabrook doesn't.

Our blueline is set. Our centers are set. This proposal wouldn't address the Pens needs at all even if they were looking to deal Staal and Orpik. Which they're not.

Gretzky fetched far less than that in terms of talent, but I'm not sure what the value of the money that changed hands is in terms of player talent.

What's the point of this trade? I can see the Hawks doing this if they hit a dead end negotiating Seabrook's new deal, but then why would the Pens run into this? Makes no sense.

Disregarding contracts, the value is right there IMO -- but those players are so similar it makes me wonder why either team would do this.

Yeah, and remember the NHL doesn't allow those kinds of trades anymore. So you'd have to pony up some big talent. You can't send $15 million along with players to get a trade done now. Also, Jimmy Carson *at the time* was much better than anything you are offering. He was a 2nd year player who just scored 55 goals and 107 points.

So back then you pretty much would've had to give up Kane or Toews, one of Keith/Seabrook, and $15 million to get Gretzky. Take out the money and look what you'd have to give up.

(This is not to debate what type of player Jimmy Carson became but at the time he was traded he was highly regarded).

I wish Hawk fans would stop trying to put Seabrook into every proposal. He isn't going anywhere unless a better physical defenseman is coming back, and how many of THOSE are available?

Seabrook is better than Orpik but he's also going to get paid significantly better than Orpik in the Summer which the Pens don't need. Seabrook is a righty which would leave only Goligoski and Martin as Lefties on the back end (which would be weird because Letang was the only righty for a long time).
