Well there's only 9 Eastern teams in it this year & were better than Atlanta & Carolina. Yes! even injured, we have more depth & still have 1.7Mil to add a forward at deadline. No worries, worst case we finish 7th or 8th.
I think it'll be a struggle to finish with a decent seed now but I don't think the Canes are very good so I'm not that worried about missing the playoffs, unless they decide to tank (which will never happen in Montreal thankfully)
Habs seem to have the guys that can play during times of adversity. Plus JM's system will actually be perfect for this kind of situation. Need the vets to step up and the young guys need to seize the opportunity.
Thing about losing Cammy for a month is I can see us getting through it.
Max Pac on the other hand (I wouldn't have initially thought I'd feel this way) has brought a whole new dimension to Gomez's (and therefore Gionta's) game. I fear for how badly that line will be reduced to its pre-MP one dimensional play.
The other thing that has to be considered is that the AKs and Pouliots along with Ellers and Desharnais are quite capable of stepping up. They aren't useless pluggers and if anything are going to form the core going forward. We might end up doing better than .500 if these guys are on their game. Gionta just needs to bury a few more and we'll be fine.
There's a chance that we'll miss the playoffs, but I think that we'll make it. I'd say our chances of making it are about 70% right now.
However, our chances of winning the division are almost certainly gone now. The odds were against us even before, of course, as Boston is having a great year, but those odds are probably insurmountable now.
We'll likely finish with the 7th or 8th seed in the East. Here's hoping we avoid the Flyers in the first round...
