He needs to clear waivers regardless of the deal's length. It just makes it less likely he'll be picked up if the Wings sign him to, say, a three-year deal.

Bobz has been great for them, but they could use Nabokov paired with him. But how do they fit it?

I was making my list off of need and cap availability.

Thats another huge possibility. So they could stay above the cap floor. Hell if he was signed to a multi year deal I even see it more likely the Isles would grab him off the wire.

Were not in the higher end need, maybe middle. Roloson is good, but adding Nabby to split starts with Dwayne would be great. I think SFY would do it if it came to him, Ellis has started once since he sucked ass against Boston at the end of December. Smith sucks, been injured and was demoted on a "conditioning assignment" to Norfolk today.

Two proven netminders who have playoff experience (polar opposites though really, Roli has gone far where Nabby hasn't really lol) might be enticing for SFY.

*FIXED TO CURRENT STANDINGS*

Id love to see Tampa grab him.

That would mean in order, the teams that get a shot at grabbing him are...

New Jersey
Edmonton
New York Isle
Ottawa
Toronto
Buffalo
Calgary
Florida
Columbus
LA
Carolina
St. Louis
San Jose
Atlanta
Minnesota
Chicago
Colorado
Phoenix
Anaheim
Montreal
Nashville
New York Rangers
Washington
Tampa Bay
Boston
Dallas
Pittsburgh
Vancouver
Philadelphia

That is the poaching order. Looking at that, there are a few teams at the top of that list I could see grabbing him.

Another thing people need to take into account is the pecking order in terms of the waiver wire. From my understanding it goes off of the previous season standings. Is their a team in the top of that pecking order with pack space that is in need of a goal tender. Even if they are not a contender.

No, it doesn't. Past November 15th, it's based on the current season's standings going by point percentage.

It only goes by previous seasons order I believe the first few weeks of the season. After that it goes by current standings for waiver priority.

Unfortunately for Tampa, it's based on the current standings by now.

I don't think you can trade a player picked off waivers. I think you need to waive them or keep them.

Nonetheless, it doesn't hurt to have Nabokov instead of Turco as a back-up, provided the price is right. I'd rather go into the playoffs knowing I have a goalie who's been to the WCF's twice. Moreover, Crawford cannot play every single game in the regular season- considering the way Turco has panned out.

Look for Chicago (or even Washington), to snap him up.

Teams pushed up against the cap may want to save their own cap space for their own injuries, etc. It's a long year.
The Oilers have 13 million in cap space and 2nd waiver claim. Khabby has the worst GAA in the NHL.. I hope we claim him

I don't believe they can, he can't be traded till free agency starts. Can only demoted to the minors giving another team a chance to claim him or for him to pass through.

Agreed that he'd be a better backup option than Turco, but Turco has a NMC. He's been a great teamate, and we'd be treating him with no respect as well as burning cap space in the process while we try to get rid of him. If it doesn't work out, then we'd have 3 G's.
