Sullivan

So does anyone actually know what the hell is going on with Sullivan? All I've been able to find out is that he has a lower body injury, and that his return date is regularly being pushed forward, without any explanation.

I'm a big Sully fan, and have a soft spot for the Preds. I hope he's OK. I'd hate to see him get decimated by injuries again

nothing at all official. Suspicion around the board is sports hernia, because he consulted a specialist in St Louis where the sports hernia guru is. With the Preds playing well right now there is no rush to get him back so I have no idea when he might actually return to the ice.

Offically, Sullivan is out indefinitely with a groin injury. Legwand just got back from a groin injury, he missed 6 weeks...

I wouldn't be surprised if Sully missed the rest of the year. It's not the same injury as before, but they all seem related. 3 years ago, I believe it was a groin injury that triggered his 2 years of back spasms...

But hopefully this is not the case!

NO, actually Sully had a herniated lumbar disc and several bulging discs in his back. He had surgery, but because he had played too long with the injury, it caused some structural damage that later had to be corrected with a second surgery. Since the current injury is a sports-hernia it is going to cause Sully more trouble than most just because of the back surgery altering the muscle groups used for different movements. With the team playing as well as it is, rushing Sully back would be dumb.

I have it on good accord that he has both a sports hernia and groin pull.

That's what I said... back problems. But if you can remember, the last game he played (Feb 2007), he left because he tried to stay on-sides, caught a rut in the ice, and ended up hurting his groin. Next thing we know he's out for 2 years with back issues.

for the record, sports hernia is a misnomer...medically a hernia is a condition in which an organ or structure protrudes outside of its proper anatomic boundaries.

a sports "hernia" is actually just a pull or tear of the abdominal muscles from the pelvis or leg.

a typical groin pull is the same thing except its the leg muscles pulling from the pelvis.

so Sully has a double whammy of muscle pulls. Rest, rest and more rest is what he needs. As long as we are playing well and are comfortably in a playoff spot, I hope he takes plenty of time so he is fresh and ready come April.

Hey, let him rest and then treat him like a trade deadline acquisition and replace Muelller with him

I dunno if you saw on Twitter, but he posted a "take your kids to work day" photo, which showed him in gear on the ice.

But, we'll see.
