Yeah DL was pissed off, but he knew this quote would become the story. It obviously has and all it does is deflect the attention away form the team sucking and him not doing anything about it.

Dreger Tweet

"Lombardi will speak to Gary Bettman shortly and fully expects to be disciplined for his remarks last night."

I know the maximum fine for players is $2500, is that the same for GM's and coaches?

Not true. John Shannon was on NHL Live today and said he was disappointed in Dean. He said Murphy is respected league wide and is a stand up guy. He also said Murphy has nothing to do with the Kings losing 10 of their last 12 and that maybe he should be looking inside the organization before making comments like that.

He said Dean is just frustrated that the young team was projected to be a contender this year and the young players have met expectations.

If anything, it brought awareness to the frustration of losing.

It also brought awareness to Dean's deep and complex "dark side". LoL, he personalized the hell out of that bad call.

If nothing else maybe the players will get a question about Lombardi's comment from the media that they can crack a smile for a second about instead of the, "Well last night was a tough loss, but do you think the way you played was a step forward?"

I didn't get to listen to NHL Live today, but if I'm understanding what you guys are saying correctly, it sounds like the talking heads for the NHL swung back at Dean...that's kind of a ***** move in itself, because they know he can't really say anything further at this point.

Look, I don't agree with DL bashing Murphy's job ethics/integrity, but I agree with his emotion and his and TM's attack of the video review system itself. It was a botched call. Nothing wrong with saying that. But it upsets me that these NHL talking heads can essentially dodge the issue (video review) by attacking DL instead of also acknowledging the call.

Yeah I heard that on the way to my second courtroom of the day. They hung him out to dry. However (see remarks at end...)

Yes the angle from the book repository makes that a tough call. It was really hit with the stick of the invisible man on the grassy knoll behind the net!
[You both realize that few others reading this have a clue what we are speaking about, although my comment is the most obvious reference]

Because, at the last minute he remembered that he had been interviewed on NHL radio the day before and had said that the team was going to have to find a way out of this debacle by themselves, and because he knows that you and me and numerous others dissect everything he says like top of the class students cutting up a frog in advanced college physiology.

Angry or not, team mirred in a potentially job costing slump, you do not impugn the integrity of a person in Mike Murphy's capacity, (or a referee) unless you got photos and audio of the payoff, and then you don't do it in the press.

Some emotion from DL is welcome. I'd rather it have been Tailspin Terry saying it, but TM has to make sure he doesnt wake up the sleeping players by getting too heated or loud.

I hope he does too. I also hope he tells Bettman where him and his "boys" can stick it... The NHL is a joke at this point, the bad calls have gotten insane at this point across the board not just with the Kings and it all begins with Bettman and who he puts in charge.

Now does the NHL put that right into the pocket of their franchise, the NHL Coyotes of Phoenix?

'There is no acceptable explanation or excuse for commentary challenging the integrity of the League's Hockey Operations Department in general or Mike Murphy, in particular,"

Except when it's a broken system that is wrong more than it's correct? Right Gary?

Well, seeing as the NHL employs Murphy, and the Coyotes are owned by the NHL, you're right.

Yeah, I wanted to write a little satirical piece somehow connecting DL, Murphy, and Bettman, but I'm short on brain power today between work shifts. Maybe later.

The NHL. We beat you, then we fine you when you question it!

I think DL needed to be fined, but $50,000. That seems pretty harse. How much money is that per word? LOL

I don't see how the NHL can fine him that much money for words, but the hit by Glencross (which was terrible) only gets fined $2,500 when the league is actively trying to get rid of bad hits in the game. I know it's a different scenario, but seriously.

oh my god. you could buy a (multiple) car(s) with that kind of money. kids could pay off their college loans...etc. etc. that is soooo much money. i agree with the lopsided punishment argument. 50k for some words, despite how offensive they may have been, is insane when you consider the head hits penalties.
