No. Callahan can do everything and in-all-likelihood will be our captain after Captain Quaalude leaves. He's a great core guy. Thanks but no thanks.

Let them come in. Penner had value. He can score 30 a year, did it last year.

They are both different players, Callahan is strong on the forecheck, can bang and crash ect...

Penner has soft hands, big body and has a great shot. He doesn't use his frame to his advatage but it still a very good hockey player.

Maybe the Rangers and Oilers value their players too much. What is so wrong with this proposal?

Age difference?
Worth Ethic?
Nationalities?

explain...

Callahan is our future captain realistically, he's a fan favorite, and he's a great core guy. Not angry, just saying.

ABSOLUTELY NOT FROM THE RANGERS

Ryan Callahan has one of the best work ethics in the league, he'll do a bit of everything from hitting people, to blocking shots, etc. He is literally the PERFECT grinder...

I'm sure value-wise it is very fair, but Ryan Callahan is more valuable to the Rangers than any team in the league.

actually not bad value wise, but not a deal either side would do, Callahan does all the little things and is a winner, definitely a future captain.

But Penner is a big strong scorer who leads by example in Edmonton, helps open the ice for his linemates.

I prefer Callahan due to my personal preference for all around excellence, but I couldnt fault edmonton fans for preferring penner

rangers fans won't trade you callahan for mps + omark, and that's what it would take.

1st off, why the hell don't you ever use the quote button? It's very confusing.

And, no, we don't. We need Callahan more than either of those players.

Callahan is a proven top-6 forward, who is one of the best leaders and grinders in the game. He won't be traded for prospects, and he likely won't be traded at all. It would take something absolutely unrealistic to get Callahan, so there's no point in even inquiring.

Ask yourself if you would do trade of Magnus Paajarvi for Drury and you get the same answer on your proposal

Penner is great, no doubt, but I would never do it at the expense of Callahan. Callahan embodies exactly what the Rangers are about.

Rangers won't trade their fan favorite. I'm praying to the hockey Gods that by some miracle, he makes his way into a Devil uniform at some point in his prime. I know that'll never happen though which is disappointing because he is literally the perfect Devils player.

The interesting thing about many trade threads is that often the original poster is lambasted for making a bad trade idea but the people that follow often make just as stupid comments when talking about the person being offered. For some reason the person being offered is always garbage, useless, we will trade our worst player for him.

Interesting.

From a neutral perspective, i say no on behalf of the Rangers.

Callahan graduated top of the class in the Jonathan Toews school of intangibles. Around here, that should explain itself. He does so much for that Rangers team that isn't quantified in goals and assists.

Not to take anything away from Penner, i just like Callahan more.

What would it take from Minnesota to land Penner? We have pretty good defensive depth and need a goal scorer like him.

You better be ready for the clueless fans who'll ask for Clutterbuck or Burns.

What exactly are the Rangers all about? Perhaps that would help the discussion move forward more so than a flat out "No, the Rangers wouldn't do this."

The Rangers identity is a team first, grind it out style. We block every shot we possibly can, we work our ***** off in the corners, we hit, we give 150% effort. Callahan is the player who drives this team, along with Dubinsky and Boyle, to do these things. He's likely the Ranger's next captain.

And he's gifted offensively as well. He's on a 46 point pace over ~65 games. He can pot 20+ goals and 45+ points when he's in the lineup and healthy, and he was on a ~55-60 point pace before the injury. Roughly the same totals as Penner, while bringing more in the locker room and in the defensive zone, let alone penalty killing and hitting.
