Think of a younger, more liked, 60 point, better defensive Ryan Jones. There's not a chance any team trades that type of player.

I have to say, it's gratifying to finally have a team with good young players that are coveted by other teams. But that doesn't mean we have any desire to trade them. Callahan will be a Ranger for life.

imagine Penner and Torts. Torts yelling at Penner to use his body and play physical hed be scratched within the first 2 weeks as a ranger.

def not a torts guy although if the oilers want Drury cause of the Renney connection then id def do that

Value is right - from the Oil perspective.

Rangers perspective, you're about as close as Edmonton and NY.

And he's gifted offensively as well. He's on a 46 point pace over ~65 games. He can pot 20+ goals and 45+ points when he's in the lineup and healthy, and he was on a ~55-60 point pace before the injury. Roughly the same totals as Penner, while bringing more in the locker room and in the defensive zone, let alone penalty killing and hitting.
Not talking about the OP's trade scenario at all here, but thanks. Rangers seem all over the place to me in terms of their direction. I watch maybe 8 games a year of them at best.

Was just wondering.

Every player has it's price.

FYI, Edmonton let that type of player escape their grasp before so I wouldn't say there's no chance of a team letting someone like that go. Ryan Jones has also been mentioned as trade fodder by some Oil bloggers so...

I understand New York wants to hang onto guys like that. Just needed the reasoning in your guys words.

Again, not saying anything is going to happen, or should, just wanted to hear what you guys had to say.

When? Could he get there? Maybe, but that's like calling Hall an 80 pt player because that's where you gage his potential. Until we see it, lets not say it.

I fully understand why Rags fans wouldn't do it, Callahan is the type of player every team needs, but I think Penner is being a little undervalued here. Bouts of laziness? Sure, but there are few players in the league with his combo of size and hands.

Callahan was on pace for around ~55-60 points before the injury. Just saying that he is fully capable of putting up 60 points.

Gonna have to go with no on this one. Callahan will be a consistant 20 goal 30 to 40 assist player that can play in all situations, is young (Will be an RFA after this season), and is a born leader. He should be wearing the "C" once Drury is gone.

Even for playing 15 or so less games then Penner, Callahan just 4 less goals and 6 less points. Not to mention he is 3 years younger then Penner and makes about $2 million less.

So the value is no where near close.

No. Never. We will never trade Ryan Callahan. Only a complete moron would trade away Ryan Callahan. Career Ranger.

Fair value, but I'd easily drive Penner to the airport if we get Callahan back.

It's past the stats thing delusional oil fans. Think of Chopper or Smytty in their primes, that's the equivalent value for the rangers.

With the addition of Wolski, once we are fully healthy we are no longer a team that lacks scoring. We are sufficient in about every area except experience on defense.

Callahan will in all likely hood top out as a 50-55 point guy, be the future captain of Rangers, plays the PP, the PK, he does everything.

Penner is a great player dont get me wrong and he does have alot more value then people seem to realize and if we didnt just bring in Wolski I can see Penner to the Rangers making alot of sense, just not for Callahan. Value wise its fair from a pure skill standpoint, but Callahan's value to the Rangers will be more than another team will be willing to pay.

Experience on D?

Sounds like someone needs Foster and Strudwick.

although if it was

Penner is not a big hitter. If you don't think he uses his size to his advantage then you likely have never watched him play very much.

Moreau and Smyth or Moreau and Smith. The first pair are not comparable as Smyth was far more valuable than Moreau.

There is not a moment in time that I would not have traded Moreau for Penner.

Why do people even say this?

If we traded a player, I'd drive him to the airport no matter who we got back. The player we trade is (most likely) one that I like. So you get to spend a half an hour with a pro hockey player, and at what cost? A small gas expense? Yes please.

.

I like Penner, but Callahan has missed the last 14 games and is JUST 6 points behind Penner in scoring.

Callahan does all that Penner does and more.

This season Callahan was on pace to eclipse Penner in points as well.

Not a trade the Rangers make as they take a step backwards.

I would do Penner for Gilroy and something else?

Nope. Penner is a very good player and valuable to Edmonton, but not nearly as valuable as Callahan is to the Rangers.
