Where does Tampa Bay's 1st come from? The Fisher deal I assume? In that case, no thanks. It has it's moment of 'intriguing' though.

That puts the Bruins over the cap.

Oh and it's a bad trade

As good as Seguin will be, I don't think Michalek+top5 pick is what Ottawa wants to do. They should trade veterans and stockpile draft picks.

so our "rebuild" involves giving up 3 players that are critical to our rebuild (i'm counting the TBAY pick) for 1?

Sens rebuilding by trading away 1st round picks? Why trade 2 first rounders for Seguin when we could pick RNH with 1 pick?

We give up a lot, but I'm not sure why Boston parts with Seguin.

Awesome. Simply Awesome.

Maybe Sens can try this (assuming all players invovled lift their no trade/momement clauses).

At the trade deadline:
---------------------
Alex Kovalev, Jarkko Ruutu, Chris Phillips
TO
Pittsburgh: 2011 - 2nd, 2011 - 4th, 2011 - 2nd

Off-Season:
------------
1st Trade:
Daniel Alfredsson, Erik Karlsson
TO
Detroit: 2011 - 1st, 2012 - 1st, 2012 - 2nd

2nd Trade:
Mike Fisher, Chris Neil
TO
LA: 2011 - 1st, 2011 - 3rd

3rd Trade:
Sergei Gonchar
TO
Washington: 2011 - 1st

4th Trade:
Jason Spezza, Nick Foligno
TO
Toronto: 2012 - 1st, 2013 - 1st, 2013 - 2nd

5th Trade:
Chris Kelly, Jesse Winchester, Chris Campoli, Brian Lee
TO
NYI: 2011 - 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

6th Trade:
Milan Michalek, Peter Regin, Matt Carkner, Filip Kuba
TO
San Jose: 2011 - 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th

The Sens will have $0 payroll, and will have $62 million to spend. It's really that simple!!!

So...Ottawa trades some of their best players and their first round pick (which will be top four in a year where there are four really good players who could all potentially go 1st overall), and they only get one young player back.

You don't trade your 1st away when you are rebuilding. You take players like Spezza, Alfie, Gonchar and who ever you have as UFA's and trade them for picks and prospects. It will give you a head start in your rebuild. If you can get a good return for Fisher you do it, if not you keep him.

So Ottawa gives up:

- LW Milan Michalek (4.333 cap hit)
- D Sergei Gonchar (5.5 cap hit)
- C Mike Fisher (4.2 cap hit)
- Ottawa's 1st rd pick (currently 4th overall)

For:
- C Tyler Seguin (3.55 cap hit)
- C Dominic Moore (1.1 cap hit)

Moore brings absolutely nothing to Ottawa. Clearly this is a huge overpayment for Seguin. I wouldn't be afraid to package Ottawa's 1st along with one of the aforementioned player (or one not listed) as long as it returns a young elite forward prospect similar to Seguin. Afterall, a team always hopes their 1st rounder will turn out to be a Seguin. So what if the acquisition was announced through a trade instead of at the podium on draft day.

The best Ottawa rebuild is:
Out with the old, in/keep the young.

out:
Phillips, Kovalev, Gonchar, Fisher, Ruutu, Alfresson

In:
2/3 young forwards, 2 young D, Draft picks

-----
you can make any scenario you want

The OP seems more like a Boston fan to me. Sure, they give up Seguin, but they get a good young power forward in Michalek, and end up with FOUR 1st rounders in this draft (BOS, TOR, OTT, TB)... TWO of which are lottery picks currently.
