Looks like Butler's stay is over for now.

He will be back soon enough. Salary cap casualty. Call him up Monday after 3pm. He has impressed people around the organization, including players.

Making room for Nabokov?

Next game isn't until Tuesday...so I'm sure they are just getting time in the AHL and will be recalled for the game against Buffalo.

I am more confused about the operations of this club then ever. Why send him down when he was the only player that was actually doing soomehting last night?

I was pretty excited about Butler's game last night, and was thinking how much more productive he could be with Spezza as his centreman...

Bingo plays tonight and the Sens don't until Tuesday.

It will be 3 games in consecutive nights for Butler if he gets dressed for tonights game, but I expect he'll be back with the club on Tuesday.

Keep the kid playing and help bingo out not a bad idea ,we will see him possibly after the trade deadline in a more prominate role on the big club once we shed some deadwood

Imagine he actually got to practice with the Sens? Maybe the team would look a little more cohesive on the ice. Except they rest the vets, send down the guys playing well from Bingo, and expect them to look good during games?

he has practiced with the team....

I rather Butler play as many games as he can in turn helping Bingo make the playoffs as well as gain experience up here.

He has looked good and his line has already shown nice chemistry.

Looks to me like someone crying over nothing on these boards... once again

You are right, being here would help build cohesiveness. But for now cap is more important to this organization. So down he goes.
All in time. Butler is showing he can play here.

We need the cap space for our deadline acquisitions I guess.

Neither in Binghamton's lineup tonight, according to the Manchester commentary Butler did not get back in time.
Brust starting, Lehner backup.

Putting people on IR has zero impact on the salary cap.

Can someone tell me why we care about saving every tiny penny against the cap? We're not taking on any cap any time soon so i don't think we should worry about that. We should worry about putting every guy in the situation that will help them/the team the most going forward...regardless of cap hit.

Uhm, we might also consider that we pay these guys more to be up with the big club then we do in the Ahl. You know, real money that Melnyk has to pay out.
Billionnaires don't get rich spending money they don't need to.

Because it's not the cap. It's the actual dollars that matters. They are going to lose money this year, so whatever they can do to save money will get done. I'm sure there is an actual budget they are working towards. The cap is irrelevant at this point.

Everyone realizes that these guys get paid more to be in the NHL than the AHL. My take on this is that Butler would be much better served staying in Ottawa, practicing and being around his teammates/linemates, getting coached than he would driving back and forth from Ottawa to who knows where only to miss the game, spend a day or 2 in Bingo then drive down to Ottawa and expect to play well.

I believe when a player is good enough to be on the big team he should be awarded the same benefits are the other guys.

Hockey teams dont do well when they dont practice together.

Butler recalled

Butler recalled
Posted 1/24/2011 10:35 AM EST on pressconnects.com
The Ottawa Senators decided to recall AHL rookie goal-scoring leader Bobby Butler a day early and give him a chance to practice with the team today leading up to its game against the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow night.

Butler, 23, is up on an emergency basis to fill in for the injured Jarkko Ruutu and is likely to be re-assigned Wednesday morning.

This is Butler's fourth recall of the season, and tomorrow night's game will mark his eighth NHL game of the season and 10th of his career.

Butler, who has 19 goals and 11 assists in 41 AHL games this season, is still searching for his first NHL point.
