Nabokov claimed by Islanders. Will not report & Can't be traded
Well too bad for the Wings and Nabokov. Though I'm sure the Howard fantasy owners are relieved . Still an ugly move by the Islanders and doubt he'll report. Oh well the season is over half way over so he'll just have to wait until the offseason.
So unlike many fans who want to tank the season to get a top pick, always trying to improve your team and create the momentum of a winning culture is "ugly?"
What sort of a run-down open at 9am watering hole did you cultivate your opinions at?
The Devils already have 2 goaltenders that are better then him.
Johan Hedberg is better than Nabokov? In what world? One year should not cancel the rest of Nabokov's career, which is definitely better than what Hedberg has done.
I don't get the reasoning behind this unless NYI think they can re-sign Nabokov.... highly doubt it.
Well, they have young Kevin Poulin sitting on the bench, instead of getting some good playing time in the AHL. They are one injury away (DiPietro), from having a Poulin-Koskinen tandem. That's probably why...
I am not surprised at all by the Wings losing him. It was just an attempt to bring in some quality, depth goaltending help on Holland's behalf. Great posturing for Holland come July.
However,
I don't think this move is as "silly" for the Isles as one might think.
Essentially,
the Isles traded Roloson for Wishart/Nabakov.
Roloson probably wanted a shot at a cup, so they moved him based on that fact and the fact that DiPietro could handle the workload. Turned out not to be the case and now the younger goalies are getting hurt.... So here is a chance to pick a goalie, for 250k with loads of winning experience.
Should DiPietro be healthy enough, why would bet the Isles would have not put in the claim. //
It does suck for Nabby, as he was probably thinking this was one his last chances to win a Cup with Detroit due to his age... but all the Isles did was swap out Roloson for Nabakov.
Yeah but can you even begin to understand the point as why Garth "Im effing Terrible at my Job" Snow even did this?
Did he suddenly feel like a 13th place finish is worth more than a 15th or 14th place finish?
Its stupid, because Nabokov gives them a chance to win a few games, and hurts their chances at better draft picks which we know they are banking on.
So essentially this was a stupid, stupid move.
The best question is... Why does snow still have a job? They have a solid bunch of prospects and could have been contenders with the right signings and so on, but Snow continues to utterly **** it all up.
Taveres, Okposo, Bailey, Nino I think will break out next year...
They should be a playoff team this year not a lottery team and its because of Garth Snow.
yea but he likely got a few million from Russia before he bailed
Well he only played 22 games at $4M per year, so how much did he really get? Is that even half the season? He could have had it from the beginning and not have to go through his. He's 35 so it's not like he's got a ton of years left.
Yes I have, SPECIALLY against the Sharks, we faced them quite a few times I must say, so I know a thing or two when it comes to Nabokov, he's a great goalie and all but when he crumbles, he crumbles hard.
Well, they have young Kevin Poulin sitting on the bench, instead of getting some good playing time in the AHL. They are one injury away (DiPietro), from having a Poulin-Koskinen tandem. That's probably why...
I know it's a business, but it seems kind of selfish. The Isles are going nowhere and Nabokov will not re-sign. So basically all this for the benefit of Kevin Poulin when other teams could have actually used Nabby. Whatever.
Great move for the Isles. It took Anderson a few years to recover after having his career bungled by being forced to split-start with Leighton when Thibault went down with an injury.
Nabokov is a proven veteran on the downswing of his career. Him losing confidence getting shelled behind a mediocre team doesn't hurt your long term game plan.
