I don't get the reasoning behind this unless NYI think they can re-sign Nabokov.... highly doubt it.

So unlike many fans who want to tank the season to get a top pick, always trying to improve your team and create the momentum of a winning culture is "ugly?"

What sort of a run-down open at 9am watering hole did you cultivate your opinions at?

Interesting move. Didn't see it coming. Figured he would get claimed but not by NYI.

As a Wings fan, I'm happy we did not get him, the guy chokes in the playoffs.

Thank you NYI

Still not even sure what prompted the Wings to sign the guy. Pretty irrelevant as to this move. But it is comical for people viewing, lol.

Its like waiting for y2k at 11:58 PM!

Kind of a crappy thing for the Isles to have done imo.

Johan Hedberg is better than Nabokov? In what world? One year should not cancel the rest of Nabokov's career, which is definitely better than what Hedberg has done.

Well, they have young Kevin Poulin sitting on the bench, instead of getting some good playing time in the AHL. They are one injury away (DiPietro), from having a Poulin-Koskinen tandem. That's probably why...

I am not surprised at all by the Wings losing him. It was just an attempt to bring in some quality, depth goaltending help on Holland's behalf. Great posturing for Holland come July.

However,
I don't think this move is as "silly" for the Isles as one might think.

Essentially,
the Isles traded Roloson for Wishart/Nabakov.

Roloson probably wanted a shot at a cup, so they moved him based on that fact and the fact that DiPietro could handle the workload. Turned out not to be the case and now the younger goalies are getting hurt.... So here is a chance to pick a goalie, for 250k with loads of winning experience.

Should DiPietro be healthy enough, why would bet the Isles would have not put in the claim. //

It does suck for Nabby, as he was probably thinking this was one his last chances to win a Cup with Detroit due to his age... but all the Isles did was swap out Roloson for Nabakov.

Alot of wings fans here are pretty bitter. It wasn't likely the Wings ended up with him anyways.

Sure they could have but at the end of the day they too would have lost him on waivers.

Its stupid, because Nabokov gives them a chance to win a few games, and hurts their chances at better draft picks which we know they are banking on.

So essentially this was a stupid, stupid move.
The best question is... Why does snow still have a job? They have a solid bunch of prospects and could have been contenders with the right signings and so on, but Snow continues to utterly **** it all up.

Taveres, Okposo, Bailey, Nino I think will break out next year...

They should be a playoff team this year not a lottery team and its because of Garth Snow.

Woah!
Holy waiver claim extravaganza Batman!

In all seriousness, good move by the Isles, risky move by Detroit.
The Wings will find a replacement though.

Well he only played 22 games at $4M per year, so how much did he really get? Is that even half the season? He could have had it from the beginning and not have to go through his. He's 35 so it's not like he's got a ton of years left.

This EXACT thing was done to the Isles last year when they negotiated a deal with Wade Dubielewicz (of all people) and the Blue Jackets claimed him.

Don't hate the Isles for playing by the rules...Hate the rules.

Yes I have, SPECIALLY against the Sharks, we faced them quite a few times I must say, so I know a thing or two when it comes to Nabokov, he's a great goalie and all but when he crumbles, he crumbles hard.

I don't get it, if the Isles wanted him so badly why not just sign him yourself?

This having to clear waivers thing is so pointless..

I know it's a business, but it seems kind of selfish. The Isles are going nowhere and Nabokov will not re-sign. So basically all this for the benefit of Kevin Poulin when other teams could have actually used Nabby. Whatever.

Great move for the Isles. It took Anderson a few years to recover after having his career bungled by being forced to split-start with Leighton when Thibault went down with an injury.

Nabokov is a proven veteran on the downswing of his career. Him losing confidence getting shelled behind a mediocre team doesn't hurt your long term game plan.

I'm a wings fan and not bitter. I'd rather he played for a bottom feeder than a playoff team.
