All he needs is an Islanders jersey.

I highly doubt Nabokov would've agreed to play for NYI @ 570k, if at all. The Islanders are basically "cashing in" (I don't really know what difference Nabby will make for them, other than allowing their young guys to go back to the minors) on Ken Holland's work.

They should be a playoff team this year not a lottery team and its because of Garth Snow.
How is he gonna pay the guys he signs? With his own money? By doing Wang's laundry, mowing his lawn and baby-sitting Lil' Wang?

What about trading just before the draft?

Does the rule that Nabakov must clear wavers again to be traded extend through the life of his contract of just through the rest of this season?

I ask because can the Isles trade his negotiating right just before the draft and get like a 3rd round pick? That kind of thing has been done a handful of times the last few years.

This having to clear waivers thing is so pointless..

Because he would get claimed by another team?

Oh and their backup goaltender got injured, last night.

Better yet:

The bottom line here is as follows:

-- there is no way for DET to make any orchestrated "arrangements" to get Nabokov back from the team that claims him unless Detroit is successful in claiming him on waivers the second time around. If any team lower than Detroit in the standings put in a claim, Nabokov would go to that team.

-- there is no way for a team who claims and gets Nabokov to easily flip him in a trade as he must go through waivers again, giving every team including Detroit an opportunity to claim for nothing more than the set waiver price, which is $3,375.

So any team that claims Nabokov on waivers is likely to do so for the purpose of having him in their lineup for the balance of the season as Nabokov's NMC effectively controls when or if he moves again. The only way the team that claims and is awarded Nabokov tomorrow can subsequently get rid of Nabokov is with the player's permission.

To the bitter Wings fans...

1. No one expected him to clear from the moment the rumor of the signing started.
2. I'm sure the Isles weren't the only team to put a claim in.
3. Be happy it was the Isles and not a contending Western Conference team.

As for me O well I'm not that disappointed, while it woulda been great to get him I didn't get my hopes up because of the waivers.

I'm sure Kenny will do something between now and the deadline, for now its Joey MacDonald and Jordan Pearce

he can be traded just read this

Waivers were requested originally and the offer has been refused.

hence he can't be traded to wings cause the wings couldn't put in a waiver claim

Theoretically, he can be traded. The chances simply are slim because he'd have to waive his NMC and clear waivers before that could happen. Or if he were claimed on waivers by another team, that team would be able to trade him.

this is the paradox of it, everyone doesn't have a fair chance at him, but nobody can sign him becuase he will get claimed by someone else, literally whoever signed him wasn't going to get him

Anyways, this is good for everyone:

- Nabokov will get to showcase himself for the rest of the year and sign a better contract with another team in the off-season (Unless he falls in love with the NYI).

- The Isles' youth will get a veteran that can hopefully help out.

- Detroit did not get him, but this will sure send a message to Howard to play better.

- Nabokov not only stayed out of our conference, but is playing on one of the worst teams.

The only problem I have with this is, then why the **** did they deal Roloson? If wins were more important than "shiny draft picks", why have they gone the cheap route this entire time and keep trading away any tangible NHL talent they have for draft picks?

I agree 100% with your general point, that it's better long-term for any team -- even rebuilding ones -- to ice a competitive team and give their youngsters the confidence of being able to win in this league.

But the problem is, that's exactly the opposite of what Snow has done. All he's done is collect "shiny draft picks" and traded away NHL talent along the way. He doesn't spend in free agency, he takes the cheap route every time, and he hordes draft picks over actually talent that can help his team win. That's how he's been the past three seasons.

So why is he suddenly worried more about wins than draft status?
