Dwayne Roloson for Ty Wishart and Evgeny Nabokov
Not a bad deal.

Wonder what this means as far as Lawson's injury...lets hope Nabokov reports and Poulin is sent down.

I still think this is pointless. We are out of it already. Let DP and Lawson play the year out. Send poulin down. If Lawson is hurt then take one of the goalies from Tampa off their hands or something. Don't piss anyone off. Don't mess with your lottery pick.

This is sooooo awesome. Send Poulin back to dominating the NHL and continue to develop. Send Lawson back to where he belongs, and we get a great goaltender in Nabokov. I love it.

Let's just hope he reports. Now somebody just needs to convince DP to give it up and retire.

Good move.I don't want DiPi overworked, but also don't want Poulin to spend the rest of this season in the nhl.

I love it! It's going to be weird seeing him in an Islander jersey.

You guys are very lucky to recieve a goalie of Nabbys caliber. he'll instantly make you guys a better team. It really will be weird for me to look at him in an islanders jersey after all those years in teal.

If you guys decide you guys are out and Wang wants to cut payroll and bring up young kids, remember hes a shark for life and we will have him back at any time. just send him to us and we'll pay anything resonable

Rather have him an isle then wearing the damn red and white though

Per my note yesterday where I was unsure and uncomfortable if he would report I read on Point Blank...the following...

His agent, Don Meehan, went on record to Bob McKenzie declaring that Nabokov would report to the team that acquired him on waivers because he is auditioning for a contract for next season.

So this is a step up for the Isles for sure.

I was somewhat confident that the Isles would put in the claim when we saw Lawson go down in the first period last night. I am not surprised.

I also appreciate Nabokov's position in playing for the Isles. Clearly the professional thing to do!

Now the question becomes is he capable of playing at the same high level with a defense that is not as god as what he had in San Jose?

I would add this question is Snow "renting" him for the last half of the season or is he going to make a play to extend Nabokov if he performs at that high level?

It means that Lawson now has an excuse for not being an NHL goalie.

I disagree whole-heartedly. (and I'm one fan who does belive if you're going to stink, you stink hard).

Let's look at facts:

1. DP is not ready to take on the full load or even, I'd argue, 60%. He can barely practice two days in a row, no less play a game. Work him back slowly and if he can't hack that... well then, you know what you've got for the future.

2. Poulin is phenominal.... he still needs work. Very athletic goalie who needs to hone his movement. Let him develop properly.

3. Koiskinen is not ready. Can't under any circumstances bring him up now.

4. Lawson's injury. The guy's 27. Not worried about ruining him. But he's shelved now.

Here's the biggest reason to bring in Nabby based on the above:

DP

What if he goes down for the year? You're left with either having to keep Poulin and another unsteady goalie. Big risk of having to play unready prospects for circumstance.

Or, you're forced to make a trade and give up assets.

Way to keep it positive. Too much negativity out there.

Good move by snowjob. Poulin back to the Tigers, and DP can play when healthy. Love all the fumes on the main board. With or without Nabokov we are still finishing in the bottom five, this just lets Poulin develope in the AHL, so it does help us long term. Not like this hasn't happened to us when we needed a goalie.

Wow, was not expecting that.

I wonder if he will even report.

Wouldn't be surprised if Snow throws him back on waivers in a week for Detroit, and gets a pick out of it or something.

Might mean Lawson's injury is somewhat serious? Nice to hear some word that Naby will report, then they can send Poulin down to the AHL to continue his development.

Its nice too actually make a positive hockey move for the NHL team rather than the prospect pool.

He's already stated he will report to any team that claimed him.

I wouldn't read too much into the move. I think the move was going to be made regardless of any Lawson injury. I view it as more insurance for DP than anything else.

If he went back on waivers, other teams would still have priority over Detroit to claim him.

Edit: nvm. These waiver rules are too complicated.

That was a rumor yesterday when people thought the Devils would claim Nabokov for Detroit, but there was an article explaining the waiver rules on TSN about how that couldn't happen.

Well I hope he plays well the rest of the year. Would be nice to bring him back next year as well if he plays good. If we plan on bringing DP back we are going to need a solid 1b type guy.
