Vokoun Injured (Clemmer vs Devils, AHL goalie coming up)
DeBoer said Vokoun suffered an injury during Friday's game but continued to play. DeBoer, who wouldn't disclose what the injury was, said Vokoun would not start Sunday against the Devils and an emergency backup could be recalled from the minors.
Scott Clemmensen had been expected to get the start against the Devils anyway. Clemmensen, the former New Jersey backup, has won all three of his starts against New Jersey.
“He's got an injury and we're just taking it day-by-day,'' DeBoer said.
I hope that it means there is a deal in the works but I doubt it. It's one thing for a team to purposely keep it ambiguous if a player is injured while a trade is going down, but another to confirm he's injured and essentially lie about it.
Also, I agree it would be unwise to bring up Markstrom, especially since he would be getting no actual NHL experience, except as a bench warmer.
Hopefully he get's traded. I'm thinking San Jose for Niemi and picks (not what i'd want but most likely return).
I hate Niemi and i'd much rather have Niittymäki.
I actually like Niemi, he's overrated but i would like to have him here, he's won a cup, and knows what a championship team looks like and is tallon's old goalie. i would rather have niitymaki as well, just because of 2006 . 3 good things will come out of this 1. Vokoun can go to a good team 2. TANK 3. Get some nice peices for the draft.
Setoguchi may be a possibility as well, wouldn't mind him.
Yeah, wouldn't really mind that. It's a shame Vokoun is hurt, he certainly played really well all game and the injury didn't seem to affect him at all... Hmm... Maybe at trade is pending, who knows? Wouldn't be surprised to see him go to Detroit, Howard just got hurt I believe. Could see us getting some picks and maybe Hudler in return, even though he's had a bad year.
Well, players have been reported to be injured and are traded not too long afterward. Can't remember the last time, but it's happened.
Yeah, didn't meant to sound like a dick in that last post. Been a long night.
Anyways, it's plausible, but i don't see the reasoning for spending 48hrs talking about how a goalie is injured, and somehow that means he's gonna be traded.
I think what you're referring to is players not being there for practice, and the press speculating about injury, and then it turns out they were traded. I just don't see any logic to saying a guy is injured DAYS before trading him. Makes no sense.
1. It's happened before.
2. He played pretty damn well with that "bum hand" last night.
Quite honestly, I don't think Vokoun and the organization are seeing eye-to-eye after his "benching" last week.
Maybe it's just me, but Vokoun seems rather frustrated. I mean, seriously, it might sound rather gay, but I haven't seen him crack a smile in forever.
I think that's just his personality. I don't think he's really a smiler anyway so to speak. But I agree that he has to be frustrated with the surprise benching last week. I'm sure he's nervous and feels like the situation is complicated with all the rumors swirling around whether he stays or goes by the deadline.
