Kane has tones of talent, but he reminds of a kid that hogs the puck and tries to do everything himself offensively, and ignores any defensive responsibilities.

If you ever played a pick up game, then you know what/who I'm talking about.

While JVR has been brought up slowly, and has been taught/punished, on taking defense just a seriously as offense.

I watched the game at work, so hopefully my boss thinks I'm doing a great job staying late on a Sunday evening and decides to not check which sites are visited.

Carter and Giroux were great, that Roo wasn't first star is a joke of course, but who really cares. Bobrovsky deserves that shutout soon, he was really good today. Timonen was really strong defensively and Meszaros had another strong game as well.

Carcillo and Nödl on the same line in the top 9, though... hope JvR is back next game. It's not that they're bad players, but neither one of them should be in the top 9. Having one of them on a line doesn't ruin too much, but both of them really hinders Richards game.

Just read this on a tweet by Flyersgoalscoredby and I thought it was a very interesting question: Assuming in the 2007 NHL entry draft, the Flyers had gotten Patrick Kane instead of JVR. Do you think he'd be wearing #88?

Anyone think Lavi was testing out a defensive system tonight for the playoffs?

We have been taking granted of our leads lately, and letting teams back in. Maybe it had something to do with that?

Just for ***** and giggles...

GFON/60
Kane: 2.78 (7th among Hawks forwards)
JVR: 3.45 (4th among Flyers forwards, behind only HBL line)

GFOFF/60
Kane: 2.32
JVR: 3.14

Difference
Kane: +.46
JVR: +.31

GAON/60
Kane: 2.88 (2nd highest on team among forwards)
JVR: 1.83 (3rd lowest among forwards)

GAOFF/60
Kane: 2.03
JVR: 2.50 (tied for highest on team with Nodl)

+/- per 60
Kane: -.11 (9th on team among forwards)
JVR: 1.62 (4th on team among forwards behind HBL line)

I'd still take Kane this year because JVR plays on a stronger, deeper core of forwards and plays for a juggernaut team which inflates everyone's stats, but I think the race is getting closer and certainly defensively, JVR blows Kane out of the water.

EDIT: BTW, Sharp's GFON/60 is only 2.38 vs. a 2.80 GFOFF/60, interesting.

Kane's offensive ability, such as puck protection and speed can allow him to get away with not being defensive minded, and that is great thing to have.

But as Kane and JVR develop you really notice the differences in their abilities, and although Kane is more then likely to be the better play in the end. It looks like JVR will be the better rounded player.

God I hate that Hawks goal song... so annoying, lol.

At least we only had to hear it once for that dumb penalty shot.

I think he is playing just fine for only being back for 4 games. Sure speed isn't his strong suit, but his positioning and using his stick and body are and its noticeable back there. You can tell when he is back there, theres a certain confidence on the backend.

Never use the word Speed with the name Pronger in the same sentence! He is going to take a while to get back to 100%, something we saw earlier this year after he returned from knee surgery.

I totally agree. Closing the hand on the puck please!!! A dumb rule that needs to go. Bob was amazing, robbing Towes. keeping it scoreless in the first when the hawks were pressing with their speed. Really wanted him to get the so. But the win very satisfying And yes that song omg. well look at it this way they wont have much longer to hear it lol 69 points baby!!!

He was also coaching the players on the bench..the guy's leadership is invaluable but yeah he needs to get his foot speed up to par. Luckily he's got so much experience that he knows how to position himself...

So should Lavi ride Bob now? Bob says he feels very good and feels he keeps getting better and better....plus Boosh's token one bad goal a game is becoming more common of late...

didnt see the game today because I had to get some work done on my car. It was my only day off so i had to suck it up and get it done. How can we go from looking like a big sack of crap against NJ to putting a thumping on the Hawks in their own barn. Unreal. btw I must of missed something with JVR getting hurt. When did this happen?

how do you blow a game against the devils? easy. wake up an hour before game time and coast through the first period like you damn well know you're in first and they're in last. jvr was injured in the third period on saturday. i was at the game and didn't notice anything but that's what the article on NHL.com said. lower body injury, day-to-day, thinks he'll be able to play on tuesday. carcillo played a firey game. a few questionable hits and an AWESOME fight. he's living out the 13th forward role extremely well.
