Taylor Hall might play in the All Star Game itself if Hemsky, Malkin, Crosby are out

VANCOUVER -- There are three current All-Star players sidelined by injury and the clock is ticking with the game less than a week away in Raleigh.

What to do if you're the NHL?

Instead of pressuring Ales Hemsky (concussion), Sidney Crosby (concussion) and Evgeni Malkin (lower body) into a decision any day now, I'm told the NHL has decided to allow those three players all the time they need right up to All-Star weekend.

Why? Because the league will replace any injured All-Star from the pool of rookies already attending the skills event. I think this is an absolutely brilliant solution.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...n-hits-to-head

That would be awesome to see Hall in the all star game if those guys can't play. Couture, Skinner, and Hall would be the replacements IMO.

Best idea by the NHL in a long time. For once, it's impossible to argue with a decision they made.

Even sweeter if Hall did end up playing.

You'd have to have Couture and Skinner ahead of Hall but after that Hall makes way too much sense that the NHL would probably screw it up.

Hell, even though it would be a bit of a screw job to both Couture and Skinner, Hall might make the most sense. Most recent #1 overall pick and all.

I think Skinner might be first given the ASG is hosted by his team in Carolina.

It mentions that the league was considering giving spots based on the skills competition.

If they're getting in through the draft then you can expect Skinner to be there anyways, with Staal being a captain.

I still hope they they pick another rookie to take Eberle's spot, even if it's one from another team. I just think that's a cool experience for the kids. But it'd be extra great if they invited Paajarvi (or even Omark? haha).

Edmonton still has to have at least one player represent them at the game. Does Hemsky still qualify for that even if he's injured? Cause if not then Hall would in fact precede those other two rookies.

Yeah like Paajarvi. After the show he put on today I think he'd add some creativity to the Shootout competition. Even Hall had some sick moves.I think both would be the favs for fastest skater and the Shootout.

The Oilers are the two time raining Champs for the fastest skater right now btw. If Hall wins it, it would be 3 in a row. Cogs in 2009 and Horc in 2008.

Hall being there as a rookie counts regardless of if he is in the game or not. Not every team has someone in the actual game right now.

the most hilarious thing is that people are praising this as a good idea by the NHL for a gimmick game - making it paradox. but, whatever creates the illusion "doing something" for you i suppose.

I could see Couture, Skinner and either Hall or Stepan making it if Crosby, Malkin and Hemsky are all out.

Staal would have to pick Skinner since he is a teammate and the best rookie thus far. Tambo should send Lidstrom a giftbasket if Malkin and Crosby are both out.

I like this year's format a lot.

With it being in Carolina I see Skinner going before Hall.

Hall doesn't deserve to go. I'd be pretty upset if he made it.

You've got the wrong user name since every post I've read, you've bashed Hall to no end. Hall is better than Seguin and should be there.

seguin should definitely not be there either. Skinner, Couture, Selanne, Penner, Yandle, Grabovski all playing better this year and why should they get snubbed of more deserved all star spots?

hall has been the 4th best oiler player this year.

Not all the teams are represented at the All-star game this year. Phoenix for example does not have a representative, so do a few other teams as well.

The NHL *liked* to have all the teams represented, but it was never an actual rule.

The NHL is doing this so that they don't need to find a last minute replacement should any of these guys be unable to go. Hall is there because he's been one of the best rookies in the NHL this year. And if guys in the big game can't go then the NHL is replacing them with players who are already going to be there.

WHY?

Arguably the most productive player on a team that is not very good at a 19 year old!

How is letting him experience this bad?

If anything, more reason for us to watch. Being 'upset' if he goes? I don't get that.

How about this you change your name to StrudwickToFoster and stop flaming on the kid that you thought was so great that you put him in your name. Stop the hate cause that's all you have been posting about. And I and Other people are sick of it.

Agreed. I hope he doesn't play, no chance of fluke injury then.

Clearly, if they are going to go that way, Jeff Skinner has to be the first rookie called into action, but I think it's a good decision to add some of the rookies to the game.
